Garage envy

Yorkshire

I envy all those neat and tidy garages with everything in its place and even space for the car. Mine was just like that and then over time has ended up full of stuff I don't want or need. I am hoping for a big clear out in the summer. Large skip or two and get rid of the junk. Another big job to add to the list. What's your garage like? Are you planning a big clear out? Perhaps it's not your garage but your shed or spare bedroom that needs a good clear out

Sorry OP, I’m one of those where everything is neat and tidy and has its place including space for a car. I’m a bit anal like that.

Add me to your block list now.

Mine was like that, just need to get it back to what it was. I think I need to test out out some friendships

GONE/TIMEOUT (No DMs please)

Our garage was built in 1960, it housed the family car with room around it to work on it...

Nowadays not many modern cars would fit!

A VW UP or smart car?

So... It has become a storage room

I'm lucky. I have a double length garage.

Previous owners have converted the back into a utility room. The last owner converted the mid section into an office (which is over the inspection pit).

What's left isnt big enough to house a car at all.

Get your hammer out and reclaim it

My garage was like this. You need to plan a new “weekend toy” purchase so that your nesting instinct will kick and you’ll tidy it up in no time

There's thousands worth of bespoke fitted units and desks in the office. Be better just building a new double on the front garden

..

There are people near me that can actually get their car in the garage. Those people exist!

I've really got on top of garage clearance. There was still some left over bits from old kitchen. Been ruthless and got rid of a lot of stuff. Looks a lot better.

I would dearly love to put the car in the garage! Ours has floor to ceiling shelving with all J’s work detritus & his piano! It’s got a huge attic though

I had my garage built when I renovated the house....so two full sized cars parked in there, plus storage, plus workshop space at the back....yes, we exist....and yes, I know, I am very lucky

Nothing wrong with that. It does encourage me to sort mine out

I am very envious of anyone who actually owns a garage. Or even a driveway

We have a few outbuildings and every one of them seem to be full to the rafters of stuff. Need a good sort out and a few skips.

That would be the equivalent of a very small cupboard in London, money wise

Paradise, Herts

I had a double one and had it converted. Half playroom half pub/bar. I left a tiny bit of actual garage at the end and it’s crammed and very untidy

Why wait till the summer? Do a couple of boxes a week and it will be all tidy by summer.

Also it's much easier to do a bit at a time. A massive job can feel too overwhelming to tackle.

You are right but it seems I tend to do things like that and also I need the skips which you can't keep for long time. I am also hoping a friend or two will lend a hand or I pay someone to help. It just feels a bit daunting at the moment

Make it into an event. The Great British Garage Clean.

Beers, vimto, wotsits, cheese. Invite a load of mates and party. But also clean...

The first line had me wondering for a moment until I realised you were referring to a car

I envy people who have garages. Ours was taken down before we moved here and we’ve never put one up.

My garage has times where it is neat and tidy, the tool wall has everything in the right place. But it usually gets messed up with me working on the motorbike, bikes, cars, guns, etc.
