Where you were born

I'm 50/50 on it tomorrow, think will do me good to see family and friends but at the same time I'm feeling a bit meh mentally and don't know if I'd rather just stay home.

Anyway, who else that's moved away from where they were born still travels back now and then?

I've moved away and there's nothing tying me to that area so have only visited in passing. It's the sort of place you only go to on purpose because it's the middle of nowhere in Welsh Wales

I moved around so much as a child that I actually don't feel like I'm "from" anywhere specific. I've lived in this NW England town for the longest of anywhere and still don't really feel like I'm from here. I feel more at home in Spain, to be honest.

Mr KC lives mere miles from his birthplace (same town we're in now) so he's permanently at "home", so to speak.

No, I live about 4 miles from where I grew up. Only really left London for uni.

Quite envious of those of you who have upped sticks and tried somewhere completely new (obviously not if for sad reasons, and not trying to trivialise any of those experiences), and have a home town to go back to!

(And I know it's never too late - work's kept me in London largely, but post-Covid ways of working might change that!)

I think it's nice to have a change of scenery, I can't stand being in noisy towns anymore.

I like going back to everywhere I've lived. Good or bad it's all part of me thought the place I was happiest is also the one I've visited least, probably because I can never recapture that time.

Piscean, you've reminded me that I really struggle with the question "where are you from?" I reply back with "I live in XYZ" but never use the term "I'm from...." Because, I'm not from anywhere, I don't think.

I'm not even from my Grandparents place anymore (the only constant place/address) because they're no longer with us.

Ah, yes, you'd need to be quite some distance then! I'm a city boy so love the hustle and bustle.

I'm sure I'll try somewhere new some day...as you say, just hasn't suited up to now, but I guess there's never a perfect time!

I understand that and probably my attitude has softened with age. Going back to places with my son gave a new perspective.
