Reports that a Swansea dog got bitten by a poisonous adder viper and the Vet Bill is 1,700 quid..

Is that a rip off ?.

Not sure of the truth of the story. Perhaps the dog had other medical issues possibly as a result of the poisoning. Worth it if they love their dog.

Of course it could be balls or it could be a dodgy vet.

Think my old dog was bitten by one after running through bracken. She wouldn't settle and git advised by a friend to give her an antihistamine. Worked a treat and was no side effects. So based on that yes seems excessively steep unless there were other issues.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

"Its nothing compared to the equalizer"

I thought she worked for free?

Or do you mean she has a more poisonous bite?

That’s not a rip off at all when you think how much the treatment supplies costs the veterinary surgery!

The bills may seem high but We only pay a fraction of the price! Also a responsible owner will have taken out insurance and can claim on that.

somewhere

It’s not high really. My friends dog was bitten by an adder and the vet bill was over 3k because it causes necrosis.

That bill sounds about right I’ve stopped walking by dog down the grower where the adders like to live in the long grass .It can affect the dogs organs so if the dog had a severe reaction then that bill is probably a reasonable price.

Venomous, not poisonous.

If you think the dog would be treated for shock, given anti venom, probably antihistamines, would be kept in over night with pain relief and probably on a drip to rehydrate so that’s actually a really good price for all that.

You can’t put a price on a dog’s life. I love my dog dearly and would pay whatever it took to save their life.

Recently took one of my dogs for a leg x-ray (non Adder related) and that was almost £500!

Vets are expensive. Pets are expensive! Adders are shifty little buggers.

So long as the dog lived to fight another day I’m sure the owners thought bugger the cost (wincing).

Adder areas in my area are signposted - not sure about anywhere else?

Not where we seem to be...

My cat needs meds for life. £63 a bottle from the vet.

Exactly the same meds, same bottle, same component make up, even the same box. Online £21 including p and p.

Yes of course it’s always worth checking online for price check but some meds aren’t always available to purchase online as you need them prescribed by vet.

I do however know of a website for purchasing meds for ‘small critters’ but that was because I was added to a secret group on fb a few years back.

My vets prices though are very reasonable.

Adders aren't poisonous.

Their bite isn't deadly to humans.

Save the dog and the husband will survive naturally.

Adder bites can be nasty to a person let alone a poor dog, vets charge what the drugs cost and often they aren't cheap!

Cheap that. My dog tore his cruciate ligament, x rays, operating and then the implant failed as his body rejected it so more surgery, medication and rehab £5,550 in total.

Vets ain't cheap.

Also the adder would use up all it's venom with the first "bite" - so you would focus on who got "bit" first

The most poison would be in the first bite or spit but plent left on the tank and I would recommend not being bitten at all....
