Basically all Conspiracies are put out there, or actively encouraged by the government / big pharma / aliens. Because the more people are worrying about 4G causing Covid or whatever, and the more they divide us and get us arguing amongst ourselves, the more they can sneak stuff past us.

So all these conspiracy theorists are actually falling for their plans and doing the dirty work for them!

The HSE are actually funded by the Polish government to hamper British construction workers in order to enable Eastern Europeans to get all the work, and leave them in peace to get on with it. That's why so many of us in the building game voted Brexit.

Also local authorities are receiving foreign aid to put up more speed cameras to raise the money to build houses for migrants, conditions being the none of the housing is allocated to established British citizens.

I'm a scientist. A theory is not an opinion.

A thesaurus gives synonyms, not definitions. However, where I come from, theory and opinion are not synonymous and having just checked Collins, it does not suggest that the two are synonymous either.

... and that isn't how thesaurus work.

The list 'similar' words, not words that mean the same.

'Person' lists 'Customer' in the thesaurus. Not all people are customers.

A freind of mine fell for that, and at school wanted to make his science homework sound more... 'sciency', so he pretty much swapped all the words for the best sounding one in the thesaurus. It failed. No one (including him) had a clue what his homework said.

Yes thing is some people aren't scientists. Bizarre there must be two versions of Collins as synonyms of opinion... Up pops theory. Which for some reason seems important.

In either case.. My post was about how aggressive people with differing opinions are to eachother. Whether they are synonymous or not. The observation is still valid.

But herein lies the problem. People think their opinions can trump scientific theory and evidence on a multitude of things. I have a deep level conspiracy theorist as a mother and she is dangerous. Her associates are dangerous, with their "opinions". They are not benign and it's not at all amusing.

But doesn't most science develop and evolve because someone has an opinion, not currently supported by current "scientific facts" and therefore at odds with them? But takes the time, applies their brain and eventually establishes new scientific facts which then support that opinion.? (in some cases) or disproves it and then move onto the the next new scientific development. (good example being sailors falling off the edge of the earth if they went past the scilly Isles) Hope that made sense... It did in my head.

No. Science is based on observations. Someone makes an observation and suggests a hypothesis to explain that observation. They then test that hypothesis experimentally in some way, gathering empirical data. They retest over and over, gathering repeat data. That data is then analysed and the hypothesis is either confirmed or rejected. If rejected, the hypothesis is revised and then the scientific method continues in a cycle until a hypothesis can be supported by evidence.

The white star liner company had 2 almost identical ships.

The Olympic and the Titanic.

The Olympic was involved in an accident with a military ship in the harbour but the insurance wouldn't pay to fix it.

The ships spent months jostling around in the harbour the months before the Titanics maiden voyage.

The 'Theory' and a plausible one at that Is that the ships were swapped, they sailed the Olympic to the middle of the North Atlantic to sink it.

The 1st ship on the scene to pick up fleeing passengers was a fishing vessel also owned by white star liners . Just so happened to be floating around in the North Atlantic dokng nothing. Waiting??

I think they just had no idea It'd go down so fast and they didn't realise the lifeboats wouldn't hold everyone.

Just a theory, but companies have done worse when backed into a corner.

I'm quite happy to wear the 'Tin foil' hat and say Goldman Sachs are always 'conspiring' to manipulate the 'financial markets' to ensure their quarterly profits are HUGE.

Remembering the financial crash 2008, Goldman Sachs were bundling up all those subprime loans, getting them Triple AAA rated selling them off as great investments to mug punters.......then betting against them.

Thats like 'Goldman Sachs' taking out Medical insurance out on YOU, shooting YOU in the head and collecting the Benjamin's. But hey, Goldman Sachs are doing GOD'S work as CEO Lloyd Blankfein famously once said.

Definition of conspiracy

A secret plan by a group to do something unlawful ....yeah that fits Goldman Sachs

Didnt the EU force them upon Greece to provide economic expertise to Greece as part of the "rescue package" before their economy totally collapsed and then to the same EU?

Not a conspiracy theory but one I've recently arrived at. During the pandemic and national lockdown, I questioned Manchester's opposition as at the time, it didn't seem sensible.

All cities were on board, yet Andy Burnham famously refused it for months, wanting financial support stating the impact on low paid workers in bars, gyms, clubs, shops.

It's now reported Manchester City Council sold 9 acres of prime city centre land to Sheikh Mansour, (brother of Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia), for less than market value on rare 999 year leases, building huge numbers of flats, coffee shops, bars, gyms and clubs.

Adding the above up, the conspiracy comes as, at the time there were no evictions in place - rents and mortgages were deferred or reduced, no one could be fired through furlough, no one could spend as there was remote working, property values immediately crashed (though now increased), all construction ceased, there is also the potential cost for unsafe cladding.

So Sheikh Mansour, couldn't construct and would have income curtailed from all angles if people couldn't work, pay or go out. If protecting people was the national priority, it seemed an odd time for a Mayor to protest.

Agree, and to the boxed skyline. The thing is too it's unlikely those who drink, eat out, socialise, rent and have bought those flats would be as unknowing of the landlord as anybody else without investigative journalism

Now with monetisation conspiracies have become a business, peddled to the disenfranchised. And everything, everything that happens is a now a conspiracy to generate clicks.

In 2002, Goldman Sachs secretly bought up $2.3 billion in Greek Government debt, did some fancy derivative action deal converting it into Yen and dollars, then selling it back to Greece at a big loss.

It was a con deal with Goldman making up a phony exchange rate for the transaction, hiding the Greek debt as an exchange rate loss and they worked a scam to get the repayment of the loss from the Greek Government over time at loan shark rates.

Essentially, Goldman Sachs , propped them up and them bet against them.

Even if so - the entire monetary system we have is suspicious.

When a government spends X billion on Y project - each euro/pound is nothing like the same money in our accounts. It is literally not true that 1 dollar equals 1 dollar, and that premise was supposed to be part of the basis of the monetary system so...

A lot of this doesn't actually make sense, and not because it is complicated or complex.

Conspiracy theory of a conspiracy theory, the USAF started the rumour of aliens to hide the truth about what they were doing at "Area 51" developing new aircraft, the stealth bomber being the most famous.

Some think they even "borrow" (rules won't let be post the 'I'm word) locals got them blind d*unk and then just left them in the middle of nowhere to simulate abductions.
