I wanted to surprise Mr and do something I haven't done in a long time...so... I've just made some fruit scones.

They come out flat, I'm not impressed, they should of been huge, why haven't they rose! I followed the recipie exactly.

Any suggestions?

Did you over rub the breadcrumb stage? Did you add some baking powder?

Rubbing the breadcrumbs is foreplay in this scenario

If the recipe measures are used correctly then it may be the oven temperature was out.

I agree with the others though.

Serve them on your chest & he will appreciate you & the scones fully. More cream!

Was your oven upto temp when you put them in? Also did you leave your dough sat for too long before putting them in the oven? Also the dough needs to be quite MOIST before putting in the oven

Was the rising agent in date? I've used self raising flour for cakes and yeast for bread before and had a similar problem only to find they were past their BBD so not as effective.

Most likely your oven temp. I'd advise anyone to invest in an oven thermometer x

Serve them with whole strawberries rather than jam, and a cow instead of cream.

Say they’re deconstructed and stick on a few extra quid.

You’re welcome.

Did you bash all the air out of your mix while prepping it?

Or forget the baking powder?

I have all my ingredients measured and ready to add to the bowl, so I don't forget anything, since having a baked cheesecake disaster.

I think you've all found the problem, I didnt have my oven hot enough. I had a roast in at the same time so didn't want to have the oven too hot. Lesson learnt.

Hampshire/Dorset

Baking powder and put them close together on the tray.

When you cut them, funny wiggle the cutter just take it straight up.

Try not to handle, mine are better since doing them in the food processor, gently flatten, don't roll out, and cut thick to start with.
