Double parking

Driving to the gym just now and I have to go down a narrow road that normally has parked cars on one side and just enough space to drive on the other. Today someone had parked on the other side as well and basically blocked the road.

Clearly it is crappy behaviour but it did make me wonder whether it is illegal or not. Thoughts?

So necessary vehicles can’t get past, bin wagons

ambulances, fire engines, police etc

Selfish parking, hope someone takes their mirrors off!

Depends on road markings, signage etc but could be Highway Obstruction.. (see Google for more info)

The road was literally blocked - their wing mirrors were safe.

I would see double parking as parking on the same side as one already parked.

This is parking on the other side.

Knobbish thing to do.

Who’s to say which one of them is blocking the road? As the removal of either one would make the road passable again.

That’s the question that I couldn’t work out.

.

The person who caused the obstruction. If the road was previously passable until they parked.

How would the police work that out?

Realistically what the road needs is a double yellow on one side.

The same way they establish if any other offence has been committed. Investigate, cctv, interview, find witnesses..

I always thought it was down to road markings first, then common sense afterwards.

If you get out of your car and can see you could possibly cause a problem for other road users and don’t look elsewhere then you’re a prick. Not sure how the Police would react to your predicament though.

It should be.

If there's a fire I hope the fire engine just rams through and pushes the cars out of the way. No time to piss about trying to move them or find another route.

Some people are ignorant cunts.

In the west.

Parking like that does my box in. I have some neighbours that park all over the place which makes it difficult to get into my runway (drive). One parks his works van diagonally on the pavement at the corner as you turn into the street. He also keeps his car on the road as well. I really want to live because of it.

There are two large silver vans near me who park on the opposite side of the road to a large white van and this is all on a curved bend to the road. I have to approach at 3 miles per hour and look well ahead as I go round the curve in case someone coming the other way collides with me ......

In the event of an accident, who is ultimately responsible, it’s the knobb heads doing the parking but it’s the driver having the bump that ends up paying.

What if I just push the car round the bend ... that's not driving is it ?

Parking near a junction is illegal (rule 243 of the Highway Code) - you shouldn’t park within 10am of a junction.

We have a roundabout near us that a builder always parks his van on. Not sure how many rules that breaks but never anything done about it.
