Appreciate humour is very individual but are you a fan

Rewatched Life of Brian last night just to see if maybe I was not in the right mood first time I watched it

But no realised its not for me

For me, Monty Python had a hit rate of maybe 30%. Some of it I found hysterical, some very clever, but the majority just left me cold.

It always seemed like a series of jokes that I wasn't in on. I knew a lot of people who loved it, some genuinely and some because they thought it was cool to like it. I think you need a certain sense of humour and a don't have it

I don’t know, it had some really funny moments in it but it was a bit of a mash up rather than a coherent story, kinda like a feature length episode of the series.

Classics all in their own right but not movie material I’d wager

Absolutely yes. Ground breaking like Spike Milligan. The material didn't always hit the mark but I'd take Python, Fawlty Towers and Ripping Yarns over any stand-up.

One of the greatest comedy movies ever and so many great lines and also it's still very relevant about what it says about religion in fact more so than when it was made ( the suicide squad ??) and just love Python anyway !! very surreal some of it though ...Like Hitler and co in a B&B in minehead ?? and of course the dead parrot...or nudge nudge wink ...or even more nowadays Upper class idiot of the year ( watch it and think of our current lot in charge ??)

You did have to sit through some shit sketch’s but when I good one came along I used to howl with laughter so well worth it.

It definitely used to be, certainly when I was much younger, but I don’t know if the passage of time and changes in perspective have changed things or if familiarity has bred contempt but I don’t see the appeal anywhere near as much now.

Having said that, weirdly, for seemingly no reason whatsoever, yesterday I found myself singing ‘Eric the half a bee’ to myself, so I guess it’s not entirely a lost cause.

It helped it being on tv post pub closing...

Some great stuff and also some horrendously absurd stuff. Brian was a favourite for a long time but I can't watch it all through any more.

Mary Whitehouse considered it blasphemous at the time... Can you imagine how it would be received now?

Love Monty Python. I watch Holy Grail and Life of Brian every couple of years and they always make me laugh. There's just something about a young Micheal Palin's cheeky face that makes me smile - you just know he's going to come out with something completely absurd any minute. The Flying Circus stuff is a bit hit and miss for me, but with more hits than misses.
