People trying to make me feel bad about myself as a means of getting my attention. You'd think I'd be used to it by now but it still wrecks me...

PSA (loud and clear for the people in the back): I'M FAT. I KNOW. I GET IT. I'M NOT GRATEFUL THAT YOU STILL WANT TO FUCK ME ANYWAY

Also fuck 'em. You're hot, they're not.

As with most of these buzz word type things, most do because they are brought into the spot light with a view to get clicks, which means taking the most extreme forms without any nuances

Negging is low-grade insults meant to undermine the self-confidence of a woman so she might be more vulnerable to your advances. So still very mean and inappropriate!

It's ok to be upset by such behaviour .

People are horrible, they target a perceived weakness (in my case it's my age) and then use it in an attempt to manipulate you.

I think it genuinely upsets people that I have the absolute gumption to be somewhat confident and love myself even at this size (I know that's the case with some of my family members ) but I will never understand the need to project that. It isn't attractive for someone to treat us like lumps of flesh.

I think some try to make us feel better about our weight, because they think we're sad about being fat.

I know my weight is my responsibility but I've been thin and I didn't need flattery to get me into bed then either.

The one that always makes me laugh is (before I tightened up my message filters) the guy in his late 60s (so clearly quite a way outside my desired age range) telling me I was "too BBW" for him.

We'd never interacted before that point, he just sent me a message out of the blue to tell me that. Obviously I was heartbroken and cried for a week

I don't really get the mindset either OP, but some people make themselves feel better trying to make others feel worse. As someone has already said, it's not about you, it's about them.

Wow, yeah see it’s so strange to me I struggle to think anyone could say that and be serious! I believe you they are, it’s just so foreign to me.

How is that even a compliment? “I’ll take your “faults” (that he’s deemed a fault himself) and fix you”.

Weird world. And I know people say ignore it whatever, but it’s not always so easy to ignore when it happens often. I face something similar, a physical insult hurled around so much it becomes hard to ignore. Starts to shake whatever confidence you have, you start questioning everyone intentions. It’s rough

There are so many people that truly hate themselves...and they can't control that hate, and they need to express it in such a way that the world can feel it, so they attack everyone that comes along their way (regardless how they look), and they will find one tiny "imperfection" and use it to such extreme and in such aggressive manner that you can't help but feel the hate they give. Nobody is perfect and we all have "imperfections" that can be used against us by these people (some more visible than others) ...for some it's maybe their weight, for others their age, for me my height.

Eventually you start to care less and less about it...the more you get exposed to it, the faster you learn to deal with it. You got this!

It's ok to be upset by such behaviour .

People are horrible, they target a perceived weakness (in my case it's my age) and then use it in an attempt to manipulate you.

I'm sorry to hear it happens to you too, I would have never assumed

I do wonder sometimes what people would find to pick on if I was slim and they couldn't say anything about my weight...

I'm one of those lucky people who genuinely only care about what the people I love think or say about me. It probably means I have a massive lack of self awareness...

If it wasn't your weight it would be something else. It really is about them and how they feel about themselves, it always is with bullies.

My adult daughter once said to me that men who I've met must have a Shallow Hal syndrome.

She had seen some photos of them and was incredulous that men who looked like them would be interested in me.

She then told me her partner had said to her I must be filthy in bed to get those kinds of men.

I found both to be funny and we did laugh about it, because it's near on impossible to offend me.

"

It just shows how looks are equated with worth though doesn't it. Despite what people say

Give yourself an hour.

Then, picture the person as a bowling ball…. And throw them off a cliff.

And move on with your day

Works a treat "

"Is that negging?

Nah, it’s just nasty, negging Is way more subtle and not out right mean.

Oh ok but negging is still mean and nasty right?

Not really, although as with anything there will be a lot of people that get it wrong and are just nasty

I don’t think this is even trying to get her attention, it’s just nasty people

To be fair I have questioned it a couple of times and mostly have gotten something along the lines of "well at least I've got your attention". Like the guy who thought telling me I was so fat I'd obliterate his bed would make "a good ice breaker"

That’s just abuse. It’s not to get your attention. The attention line after is just more abuse

Basically “I said something mean haha, and look you’ve reacted to it so I know it’s hurt you haha again!”

Fuck them

Mate some guys genuinely think it's a compliment. I had a "discussion" once with someone off tinder who told me I had "such a beautiful face but such an ugly body", then proceeded to tell me it was okay because he was still willing to date me and we would work on sorting my body out together I can send you screenshots, it was genuinely staggering but also kind of hilarious

It’s rough "

Ah I'm sorry you go through this too hard to imagine about what though!

Yeah that exact feeling is the reason I left the first time around and took some time to sort myself out. Just the constant doubting of myself and others and overthinking peoples' intentions because of the few shitty experiences that destroyed all my self-assurance. I seem to have returned to the exact same thing but I did miss the good people that made it worthwhile. Plus the dating apps are absolutely fucking brutal

Yes I have been nervous around someone very good looking. A male friend of our daughter's who I didn't know knocked on the door one night, I was stunned into silence be his beauty. All I could do was stutter hello and point upstairs to her room . I didn't feel embarrassed to exist next to him though

If you think in those terms about yourself and you said you were being honest you will start to think that the insults thrown your way are the truth. They're not.

I've not brought her up to be vain or competitive with other women. The age difference between me and my partners could have something to do with it.

My elder daughter briefly met my long term partner and gave me a silent fucking hell mum and hi five as we passed in the hallway.

I've never been embarrassed or ashamed about my body. Not when I had stretch marks, or tiny boobs because I was very thin, or when I turned into a "fat, doughnut-eating cunt" (my husband's words when I put on 9 stone). I've been undressed by men years younger and much much better looking than him.

But that doesn't matter either.

I don't measure my worth by the men who want sex with me.

Be choosy, be confident, and above all, be yourself.
