I see lots of profiles saying 'not interested in a penpal'...I would quite like a fab penpal. It would brighten up my mundane days

I've never had a penpal, I thought about writing to someone death row but it was a fleeting thought.

Do people still have penpals? Stamps cost a lot now dont they...is it done more by email now?

Once had a penpal from Germany. Didn't last long, never received a reply back after my second letter... Over 20 years ago it must now

Would like another though, so if anyone's volunteering?

I have a Fab pen pal. She’s older than me, we have never met. We message every month or so which means no real pressure and keeps it fresh. We talk about our lives, our love lives, what’s happening, holidays & daily stuff.

We also cover our past in terms of lovers and experiences. I love it.

I had a female penpal that lived in the states, we met through limewire (who's old enough to remember that?) We'd message a few times a month, it lasted about two years and I looked forward to hearing from her, we were both due to marry out partners and after then it sort of faded away. I'd love to have someone like that again and a fabber would be brill

Hi Wanderingquim.

I have a few male friends with whom I keep in touch through Fab or email but no female "penpals" and would love to chat and swap interesting stories. I realise I'm out of your age range but you don't get if you don't ask and as I'm not looking to meet there would be no pressure.

If you fancy breaking the ice, drop me a line and say hello.

When I was about 15 or 16 I met a girl on a school trip - there were a bunch of local-ish schools on the trip and she was from another school.

We wrote letters for quite a while, mostly filled with nonsense as I recall, and it was quite fun.

We met a couple of times after, with friends of both hers and mine from our schools who were also on the trip.

Happy memories. Not sure how it fits in the modern world though, this was the mid 80s.

There are quite a few guys on Fab who like to chat and message. Most of them are married but pretend to be single and looking to meet.

They like the pretence of a sexy girlfriend. It can be fun for a while. I had a French pen pal from Fab during lockdown and it kept us both entertained. I realised after the first week he was never going to meet me but he was intelligent, good company and very naughty and we chatted and cammed on and off for about a year.

Do WhatsApp penpals count? I chat daily with a lovely lady I introduced to Fab 4 years ago - and as we`re not always logged in on here, writing on WA is a lot easier - plus sending letters wouldn`t be good if her daughter opened them!

Always open to someone else to chat with, of course...

I had a pen pal (well email pal) I met on a vanilla forum. We got on really well and we shared everything that was going on in our worlds. We were both pulling through a dark patch. It's amazing how much connection you can have with someone you've never seen. Eventually she invited me up to stay with her in Glasgow. That worked really well and we met up a couple of times after that. It became a really good freindship with sex. These things eventually come to an end. She met a nice guy and married him. I think he was a traditional type of guy, so we went our ways when they got serious. Maybe the sexual element caused our parting. Which is sad because our freindship is what I valued. The sex was just an extention of freindship and something I could happily drop to stay freinds. But I think she just saw being freinds with someone she had sex could rock the boat. And I would never want to risk that for her. I believe she is still very happy with him. Sad its over but happy she is happy and to be fair I am too.

Well, you can actually write a letter, a proper leter, take a pic with your phone and email that.

"I see lots of profiles saying 'not interested in a penpal'...I would quite like a fab penpal. It would brighten up my mundane days

I've never had a penpal, I thought about writing to someone death row but it was a fleeting thought.

Do people still have penpals? Stamps cost a lot now dont they...is it done more by email now?

Won't mind having a fab pen pal, used to have one. Where you can email and chat about anything.

I would love an e-mail penpal with a wild side. I enjoy correspondence that includes thoughtful writing on a wide range of topics. I appreciate well written significant exchange of the written word. I am also open to other technologies that supplement an email/ message exchange.

"I want a fab penpal, but I hate writing. Would semaphore be okay?"

That’s not a penpal, that’s a flagfriend

I do have two people I originally spoke to on here that I message regularly. We don't meet up (I have once met one of the two) but we do message each other.

The original messages were beautiful long letters, whereas when we moved to WhatsApp they became much briefer messages but more of a conversation.

I wasn't looking for a penpal, but I did find two!

The problem with an email is your girlfriend can’t spray the envelope with her perfume. That was always the best part of receiving a letter
