Have you ever been the victim of somebody out for revenge? Regardless of reasons or what your original actions were.

I don't mean Karma, I mean calculated revenge.

I disciplined a member of staff once for inappropriate comments to a female colleague. The very next day he tried pushing all my buttons right up to the point of disobeying a direct order and when I challenged him he headbutted me.

We ended up wrestling until other staff members separated us and he immediately played the mental health card and went off on the sick to avoid dismissal.

He claimed I had attacked him first and I was suspended and about to be disciplined for gross misconduct. I had worked for this company for 33 years at the time with an unblemished record.

The MD decided not to proceed and reinstated me.

3 months later when the other guy eventually returned he was placed in a different dept and was no longer my responsibility. He did everything he could to undermine my position though by hiding important orders and damaging goods that caused issues within my dept.

Revenge became his main reason for turning up at work each day but he was eventually caught trying to change rotas I had made out and was dismissed.

Yes. I found it all incredibly childish and thankfully the person who was trying to use me wasn't the brightest, so it was very easy to see what was going on.

It's possible that I've been the unwitting cat's paw of someone smarter, but I've never suspected.

Yes, lets just say it backfired and he was pretty much ostracised for his behaviour afterwards.
