MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January 2018, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway.

.

.

.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

.

.

.

FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:

Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.

.

.

Finally- if you’re working towards a specific goal, share it here

My apologies if this has taken on another form in my absence!

Sadly I’m still nursing an Achilles injury but it’s always good to support others, especially as we’re coming into the race season.

Let’s hear how you’re getting on folks…

I really need to get back into it. Just as I started again I got covid and I’m not sure if I’ve got some kind of long covid now. Had a permanent cough and cold for weeks. Can’t run very far at all. Before that was doing about 25 miles a week.

I’ve heard of a lot of people that have experienced long term breathing issues post Covid. As with any illness or injury, it’s about listening to your body and not pushing yourself too hard.

Be patient, it will come back in time

Ah, lovely to see you back, Tea!

I am attempting to restart couch to 5k again this week. It's been a 5 month gap due to covid fatigue - I was pooling round 5k twice a week before that. I did the first session six weeks ago and ended up in bed for a couple of days Feeling much stronger now so am hopeful I'll be ready for it. Have really missed the exercise, physically and mentally.

Hi! Lovely to see you!

As I wrote ^^ it can take time. Even longer than we’d hope or expect and it’s frustrating to wait for bodies to be better. Try to remember that recovery isn’t a linear process but does get there in the end

I am currently recuperating after a big operation on my tummy but prior to that we feel that I too have some long covid symptoms as my lungs are not as strong as they were previous to contracting covid. I am also carrying an injury on my piriformis/glutes.

I am looking forward to getting back to running but I am definitely not going to push myself to run too early.

I have 2 events in the autumn, a 16 mile half trail/half road run over the Brecon Beacons and the Snowdon marathon.

Good luck to everyone with your training.

Mine is going well. Been trying to reach my target of 15k for a while now.. some days are easier than others I must admit.. hopefully now with the days getting longer and sunnier, I can increase my run from once a week to 2 times a week. Need to get myself back where I was before covid struck and that was jan last year

I used to have bad knees when I started running but gradually the pains started reducing and now I'm pain free so keep going

I did Alexandra Park Run (most of it) last Saturday but couldn't be bothered today! I did 4k in 25min, which isn't too shabby. Next time, I shall take the right route on the last lap.

I'm training for 10k so should probably get my backside in gear and push another Parkrun next weekend...

There’s a lot of benefit from run/walk routines, the first couple of weeks of C25K incorporate that a lot. Being able to push past it is a good thing!

Well done for keeping at it

I took up running when we went into lockdown all those thousands of years ago - having convinced myself over more years than i can count on all digits that I wasn't built for running.

Today I ran 11 miles - my last long run in my training plan for Milton Keynes half marathon in two weeks time. It is my first ever half marathon, and I can confidently say it will be my last!!!

I just wanted a challenge this year. But now wondering why I didn't pick something like, oh, say, crocheting a scarf lol

Anyway... the moral of my story is, if I can get to 5km, anyone can!!! Keep going, and if you really want it bad enough, you'll do it.

Happy running all

I'm also 5 months post covid and am still recovering. The mental drain has been unbelievable. I have had blood tests and no answers.

Wasn't much of a runner before but did row, spin bike and cross trainer. Still hopeful I'll get through C25K one day

I've had a rather unhelpful break - a very busy period in work coincided with her ladyship having a op and being housebound, bored and needing to rest so I've not run for 3 weeks. Did 5 miles today, felt comfy, pace wasn't too shabby considering but my legs can feel it a little more than they should. I'm supposed to be doing an iron distance tri in under 7 weeks. I'm not sure if I'll be ready or not

I’ve been on a running streak of 1 mile a day since Jan 21st…..some days I go a bit further/faster and others I literally hit 1 mile super slow but I do it!

It is a mega pain but it’s the only way I can stay consistent! Hoping to lose weight as my heels are usually in pain with plantar fasciitis but unfortunately the last month especially one of my knees has been flaring up a lil.

Anyone use a knee support or would be able to recommend anything that has helped with mild knee niggles would be appreciated

Congratulations and hope the half goes well.

One thing I will say is that not everyone can run 5k, no matter how hard they try. Some of us can't run to the end of the driveway. There ARE other ways to convey oneself around 5k though
