Peri menopause hair growth

I swear since hitting this age and starting to go through menopause, my facial hair is horrific

Tweezing was fine for a few years but now it's a daily chore and I've resorted to the odd shave . Cue stubbly chin and more embarrassment

I can't afford laser so wondering if any brave ladies would be willing to share their tips on managing this.

It's not widely spoken about but according to online searching, it's a common issue. Hopefully some of you plus 40 ladies can help

Oh i wonder if some hormone replacement might be good for you? Why don't you go and chat with your GP.. See if you can get a younger female one x

There are some forms of hrt you might be able to tolerate?

There are some supplements, but hrt doesn’t just help things like that. It helps prevent dementia, bone loss and heart disease.

I have soft fuzz all over my face now too - I am on HRT.

I thought about dermaplaning but don’t know enough about it & worried about re-growth.

I use facial bleach on any dark bits

It’s getting much better now, awareness has increased a lot recently, and there’s a lot more information about hrt.

At home laser helps a lot with dark hair against pale skin. (I have PCOS related facial hair) Still not cheap, but a lot cheaper than the salon version

I dermaplan my whole face every two weeks, doesn't grow back quickly or darker. I get the odd hair on my chin but tweezers are best for the odd hair.

Agreed, there’s so many different ways. Patches, pills, gel

It’s bio-identical (progesterone and estrogen are) so they are very safe.

Since hitting 40 I have definitely noticed a difference in my skin. It’s a lot dryer and I seem to have reactions to certain things that I never had before. I get peach fuzz now and the odd random chin hair too. Not looking forward to it getting worse

I've had facial hair since puberty thank to the glorious condition of PCOS. As a teenager I made the terrible decision to shave it and it's been a near daily thing ever since.

I used to be awfully ashamed of it but at the end of the day it's just hair. It's a hormone imbalance and it's me.

I tried laser removal when I was younger but was told it was the wrong type of hair and the laser wouldn't work. I've heard things are different now but I'm not sure I'm bothered now to be honest.

My mum uses the finishing touch flawless facial hair remover from JML (& Asda etc). It’s like a mini lady shave but she said the hair doesn’t come back like it’s been shaved, it’s quite fine regrowth. It’s small enough to keep in her handbag. She’s happy with that.

On myself I invested in a Philips Lumea a few years back and that works for me (so far). Only works on dark hair/fair skin though.

I got an at home laser (electrolysis?) thingy and I nearly cried when I spotted the first bald patch in my moustache. I've had black facial hair since I was eleven, and it's hard not to feel self-conscious about it.

Download the Balance app - it has been created by a doctor who specialises in the menopause. It has loads of useful resources along with a tracker for your symptoms. It also has some draft letters so if you ask for help and they dismiss you it gives you a bit of help in getting taken seriously.

Waxing? It’s supposed to thin the hair and last longer than shaving.

I dermaplane as my hair is naturally dark so shows up like a beacon. Im going to consider threading though because ive noticed im getting a lot of rough patches and i think my skin is too senstive for it

For occasional hairs electrolysis is best, but can be a slow process as each hair will need a few treatments, but you will see it coming through finer each treatment.

Waxing works well, will last about 4-6 weeks. As it’s been removed from the root it won’t appear as thick and obvious as it re grows.

Hair removal creams will remove all hair above the surface so will need doing quite regularly. Please don’t go along the shaving root.

Salons will help and offer advice on what the best opinion would be but def see doctors again to stop getting any worse x

Waxing is a no no. You need to let it grow first and that just won't happen.

Doctors is definitely my next stop (female one this time) and failing that, a salon.

Lots of ideas. I'm just not great on all these beauty treatments. I don't have any and never have

I take evening primrose oil for my dry skin and joints and that works brill, arm fuzz is creamed off and my face is waxed, the rouge chin hairs appear almost overnight so are easily tweezed out
