Always full or hardly anything there? Fed-up with those chefs always saying 'that's something you have in your larder' and never actually have it. In my opinion something is not a larder item unless you use it all the time. What's your favourite larder item you always have.

Ditto.. if you think about the old ready steady cook pantry.

You should be able to make any meal with one additional protein item and a few fresh veg.

It was always going to be the case that this forum post would attract the motor car puns such as Russian car is a skip, British car is a mini skip.

However, in some attempt to support the OP, I must comment as follows:-

The single most important item in my larder is my chest freezer.

The second most important items in my larder are all the things which I've frozen instead of wasting. Such as cheese, carrots, mushrooms, mashed potato. Who knew that so much stuff could be frozen instead of wasted?

I waltzed into my local cheap supermarket and found Warburtons, 800g loaves on sale for 20p each. I bought one as it fitted into my freezer.

I have a wedged larder. Mostly Asian ingredients i bought ... just in case.

And it's bollocks. Waste of money. Keep your larder lean and your money in your pocket.

Anyone need a Kilo of crushed chillis? Cos I don't

Yes,I used to throw spices, and to be fair other stuff too, that had been there forever. I keep basic stuff now and as someone else said freeze a lot, both raw ingredients and cooked meals.
