Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

Two. First was as a passenger 40 years ago. Driver was speeding and the car spun off the road. No injuries, but the car was a write off.

The second was about 35 years ago. I was driving a work pick up, stopped at a zebra crossing, but the guy behind wasn't paying attention and ran into the back of me. Caused a lot of damage to his car, and a broken light lens on my truck.

Apart from those, nothing else in the 42 years I've been driving.

2, one minor and one major.

About 5 years ago I was hit by a stolen car at 70 MPH. Broke both my wrists, fractured L2-L4 in my spine & had a bleed on the brain.

Still have terrible pain in my back which I get 6 monthly nerve blocker injections.

But they caught the guy and he got sentenced to 7 years in prison

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands

65 years and about 1.7 million miles in a variety of cars, vans and lorries I managed somehow to keep the accidents down to two, both of which involved other drivers pulling out in front of me from a side road.

Fortunately both were injury free.

North West

1 in a Land Rover when I was a baby

A couple in a Nissan Prairie when my mother was driving (I was a child)

As a driver -

2 shunts - 1 my fault, the second someone crashed into the back of me.

1 pretty major one, when a 40 ton lorry pulled into a roundabout at 40mph, when I was part way round. Hit my rear passenger door, flipped my car over. I did 2 revolutions and finished with the car on its roof, facing the wrong way down the dual carriageway that came off the roundabout.

I was very lucky to be in a Renault Scenic, very well built cars. The design of the car saved me from serious injury. Other than cuts and scr@pes, I was apparently uninjured. I say apparently, because my lumbar disc problems started after this event. They didn't even bother to x-ray me or do any physical investigation at A&E, I spent several hours on a trolley, propping a door open!

Great Wyrley

Up until about 6-8 months ago I’d had no car accidents!

Then I had 3 in 4 weeks. All minor scrapes but thank god for the front and rear dashcams.

Insurance company sorted all 3 without question as I wasn’t at fault and the dashcam footage proved that.

Strangely enough my insurance renewal actually came down too!

Just one, a couple of months after I passed my test. Someone coming in the opposite direction turned right in front of me, but suddenly realised I was there and stopped in the middle of the lane. If she'd carried on I probably would have missed or just clipped her car. It crunched the front of my car back so much that the doors wouldn't open and I had to kick the window out to get out.

"How many car accident's have you been involved in? Was it a minor scrape or something more serious?

"

Since I passed my test I had 3 accidents.

First one, 4 months after I passed, I was in my Chrysler Avenger, early on a freezing cold February morning, in the wilds of Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire...

The car had an adjustable gas button beside the steering wheel to give it higher revs when starting in the cold,

and I entered a roundabout and pushed it in to lessen it off, and she cut out!

A man in a mini had entered the roundabout behind me, hadn't realized I'd stalled and clipped my passenger side back corner panel,

it spun my car right round to face the other way,

and put himself upside down

Whiplashed in a collar when 6 months pregnant wasn't fun.

Oops.

My car needed a new panel

His car was a write off.

Second one was in my late Hubbys Vaxhall estate, in North London where I used to live,

I turned right to go down the side of my block of flats,

I hadn't seen the little Hillman imp car parked to the right of me behind the row of huge dustbins and rubbish skips,

they pulled out in front of me without indicating,

my brakes were a little slow in responding, and I just caught their back bumper on the passenger side.

Turned out to be my neighbour, a bit off her tits on who knows what, she told me not to worry about the damaged bumper because she accepted she shouldn't have been driving.

Hubbys car just had a small scuff on the paint work, nothing dreadful.

The third one was a bit more serious.

I was coming out of a huge motorway services and turning right on a big M4 roundabout,

as I checked my mirror and indicated to shift lanes out, a big builders flatbed truck came whizzing around from somewhere behind me shifting lanes to the middle without indicating,

and we made contact as we crossed paths

The impact was so hard we had to get the RAC out to move us off the road until I was calm enough to continue to our destination to get the damage fixed.

Headlight was mullered, panels were mangled and the steering mechanisms took a proper knock.

Glad to say none since I've lived in Pembs.

2..both my fault. 1st cost me £1500 to get car fixed as I went into the back of a van, the 2nd i skidded on black ice and court my rear wheel on the curb so I had to get a whole new rear quarter and fix it myself

2 as a passenger.

One was just a shunt on the motorway caused by aquaplaning. Wrote our car off but everyone was OK, and he drove off.

Other was in a mini that lost control, crossed the central reservation and crashed into an oncoming bus, and was thrown back into our lane where a pickup truck rear ended us.

I was in the back seat without a seat belt (as it was a classic) and was thrown into the roof on impact, then the back seat crushed up against the front and I ended up laying across them.

That was a lucky escape. If I had a belt on, I'd not be walking, if I'd even survived.

Two

The strange thing both happened in the space of a fortnight. Someone reversed into my car outside my house. The other one was a rear shunt into the back of my vehicle. A BMW crashed into a Kia SUV and was pushed into my car. This second incident involved the courtesy car supplied by my insurer. First one called 50/50 as I had no dash cam to prove otherwise. The second incident called as no fault on behalf.

2 accidents with people crashing into the side of my vehicle while I was down country lanes as the local District nurse!

2 insurance claims with vehicles damaging my camper van whilst it was stationary! 1st outside my house (BT van & they settled quickly) and the 2nd whilst on a garage forecourt. The last one was 2 years ago and my insurance company are taking the garage to court as they still deny responsibility.

So 35 years driving, 4 claims and I've not been responsible for any.

The only way to get the repairs costing £1400 done was to go through the insurance. Having my premiums go up annoyed the hell out of me
