Affinity with work colleagues

Jump to newest

I've never felt this way in the past but I just feel no affinity towards work colleagues in my job that I started 3 months ago. Has anyone else been this way?

If I never saw them again I couldn't care less

Hopefully you’re not put in charge of arranging any leaving do’s.

In a town full of colours

Luckily no, they have all been my mentality and I've made some longterm friends.

Hope you find an answer soon

Why do you think that is?

In the west.

I had a connection with all of my colleagues but that has changed after lockdown. Now it is only a few of them. I should have been out with them today but I didn't go because I can't be bothered to listen to their shite.

3 months is still early days OP. I've been in my job for 10 months now and there's only a few people I really click with. They are a funny bunch

I think some people thrive and what's more need a certain social table to sit at. It gives them ballast, comfort and and some meaning to all this.

I'm a loner, always have been. I'm happy that way too. I have few possessions or friends and I'm very aware how quick our visit here is.

I do make lots of magical "connections" along the way but nothing deep and meaningful. I might wake up tomorrow and make plans to go see what living in Morroco is like, or see how far I can get in a boat.

You have to listen to that uneasy feeling at times and not worry when it challenges life's "norms' it's very often looking out for you.

around here

I never feel like I'm friends with colleagues. I will always have a laugh and a chat etc but don't ever add on social media or expect to stay in contact with anyone if I leave. Maybe I'm just weird

I'm a Supervisor so no, my work relationships don't go deep I have empathy and I'm supportive. But I can't be an objective leader if I'm too close because how so you pull back when people need pulling up

I won't accept social media requests or socialise with them either other than at work partys

Can I just say we've had more disapproving comments/messages on here because we are colleagues, but not because, for example, I like to be tied up and wear a collar. It's hilarious

We were a couple LONG before we were colleagues, for any disapprovers. And I outrank him at work

I knew a football manager once who wouldn't have a drink with the team cause if he was bought a pint by one of the players , that player would be expecting to play next week ...always keep your friends and work separate.

My work colleagues are exactly that. I rarely make "friends" with work colleagues and dont generally stay in touch. You cant choose who you work with usually, so I just do my best to get along with everyone

Yup, dealt with that for about two years at my last place. Safe to say it didn't help my thoughts toward the work place.

I have one friend at work who I get on really well with. The other 4 I could quite happily live without. Nothing in common what so ever. Always had friends I have kept after switching jobs but not this bunch

Nope, I've really liked the teams I worked with in both of the places I worked so in a way, I've been lucky. Although they're also the reason I've been in no rush to leave despite the work being shit.

What is it you don't like about them OP?

To me work is the same as any other part of life, there are people that I get along with, and people that I don't...the only thing is that I have to be in contact with them and be nice to them at work or I get in trouble with HR

Not just work. I know lots of people who I can have a good laugh with, get on with in work or out but there are very very few in my life I would be genuinely hurt to loose.

I don't know if it's my natural personality or growing up in a sect that strongly discouraged any friendship with outsiders but I find I just don't form lasting friendships with anyone.

I'm not bothered by this - it doesn't seem to matter really.

Mr
