Which one do you call your evening meal? It's dinner then tea for me being a northerner, rather than lunch and dinner. I feel this is the correct way purely based on the fact you don't have lunch ladies at school do you, its dinner ladies

I know it's controversial up here but it's breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper for me. The official stand is that it depends on what you are having and whether it's a light lunch meal or not. There is an assumption you only have one big meal a day and that's what you call dinner whether you have it at lunch time or evening.

They were called lunchtime supervisors where I worked and Ideplored the fact that teaching staff never picked up on the pupils' use of 'dinnah lady' or habitual reference to 'me dinnah' instead of 'my lunch'.

Anyone who uses the term 'dinner' for their evening meal is worthy of deep mistrust and suspicion. A soft, shandy-supping type found in the south of the country. We didn't have 'lunch ladies' at school did we!?!

Late breakfast is lunch( posh people call it brunch) dinner is a late lunch, and supper is a late dinner, breakfast is a late supper.

I have lunch at midday

If it’s 5pm and I’m staying in and cooking for my children , it’s tea.

But if I am going out to a restaurant, I’m having dinner.

There’s no right or wrong. There is just one way to say it, and another way to say it.

Was always breakfast, dinner and tea. Then I went to catering college and it became breakfast lunch and dinner. Altjough the head of department insisted it wasnt afternoon until you have had your lunch. Which for us was usualy after lunchtime service around 2pm.

I grew up saying breakfast lunch and dinner, with the more rural version being breakfast lunch and tea.

It's not that deep to me as long as I can work out what you mean. (It was a learning curve. I eventually spotted a pattern that locals said "dinner" to refer to the meal in the middle of the day)

It gets complicated

So if the main meal of the day is in the middle it’s dinner, with a lighter option for tea.

However, if the main meal is at night it would be lunch then dinner.

My heritage of north/east/Scot/south messes it all up
