Any other budding photographers here? What’s your current set up and what’s your next purchase? I’ve got the Sony A7iii with a range of lenses at the moment - tend to favour the 50mm f1.8 most days. Looking to upgrade to the A7IV when I can find stock somewhere! Also been looking into film photography but haven’t taken the plunge yet - if there are any film photographers left please do shoot a message over, would love to bend your ear about it!

If you don't mind going grey -

E-Infinity & Panamoz Have the A7IV in stock. Both are very reputable dealers. I ordered a Sigma 24-70 recently & arrived in 8 days.

Just saw a quick clip and subbed so I can watch more later - lovely quality video. I do a bit of video stuff at work; are you using any gimbals? Just got my hands on a dji ronin which is fun. Used to have a steady cam rig to play with but it was so old and made for tapes so got rid a few years back.

Haven’t heard of those sites I’ll give them a look now! Been holding off on picking up a 24-70, I’ve got a 16-24 zeiss and a 70-200 g master, a 35mm prime and a 50mm prime which I tend to use most of the time. Not sure I’d use the range under normal circumstances.

Technically I progressed from budding photographer about 35 years ago.

Currently shoot with Canon cameras in a studio full of Elinchrom lighting.

If you have any film questions drop me a PM I shot it every day for 20 odd years & had my own darkroom in the studio for B&W, colour slide & neg processing of 35mm, 120 & 5"x4" film, & B&W printing.

sexy town

I was a semi pro until covid hit and also having to give up work due to a custody case with son.

Lots of outdoor sports and product photography on location with the occasional bit of modelling work to make things interesting. Even had a couple of shoots with folks from fab (see feed back)

Shoot mainly digital with canon but do have a film body when I am feeling a little different lol

A while back I bought a GX7 for £100 off gumtree just to take I to the desert and I haven’t used anything since I love it. Its m43 , I have equiv. 37mm prime for street, a really nice high end 25mm for portrait/ glamour and a 12-32 pancake when travelling very light. I use a manfrotto carbon & pro geared head in the uk and also Rollei carbon with swivel head for travel

For light I use IKEA bulbs as they are 100 CLI, and a fraction of the price.

Made the switch to Canon Mirrorless this year. The 5D4 with all the white lenses was too heavy to carry around. Only used as a hobby so was nice to part ex and ended up with an EOS R, RF 16, 24-105,50, 100-400 and 800mm lens kit. Managed a bargain EF 70-200 f4L IS for the price of the non IS lens thanks to a cock up on the web site lol.

They are so light and the spec on the R is pretty much the same as the old body - just 1/2 the weight

I still just photograph my wife on the spare bed in the guest bedroom. It's like working in a sweetshop.

Nikon man here, two D7000 bodies picked up from Entertainment Exchange (yeah I know!). Got to lenses, a 70-300 and an 18-200 which is really all I ever use.

Just before lockdown I was made redundant so was trying to set up a portraiture business…

Happily I’m now in full time employment so that painful transition wasn’t needed. Still call myself semi-pro and do the odd paid shoot here and there.

Got a couple of PixaPro Pika200’s with lightstands, modifiers and backdrops to make up a mobile kit.

Anyone in the Warwickshire area who needs pics, gimme a shout.

I've got a Leica T. I haven't used it yet as it's a little complicated for me. I got it second hand but for a good price.

I've got a go pro and a smart phone too. I'd love to do some porn and dirty photos.

Don’t make it about the gear. New equipment is a distraction that will distract you finesse your skills and style. buy books by other photographers whose work may influences you

Don’t buy unnecessary gear

Don’t just keep pressing the shutter button

I have a nikon d810 with a few lenses. Mainly use the 50mm 1.4 though. Digital is my working camera though... my main camera is my pentax 67ii. It's a beast! Best glass I've ever shot with! Can't get enough of portraits with it.

Like the sound of your set up. Heard nothing but good things about Sony and as the make sensors for both nikon and Canon I reckon there's some truth in what I hear

Wise words… but I would point people towards YouTube, in particular Adorama TV. Mainly for portrait photography but covers other things too.

I use a...

Canon 6D MkII full frame

Just upgraded my favourite 24-105 lens to Canons professional L series lens for my landscape photography

Tend to use a canon 50mm 1.8 prime for portraits

And occasionally my Sigma 150-600 for wildlife.

If I was to start over I'd think about mirrorless. The fuji xt series is good. I tried it when I borrowed one on a photography tour when I, erm... left my camera on the plane!

If anyone wants to DM, I'm happy to chat

I mostly shoot on film. I use a Pentax 6x7 for medium format. It’s a beast of a camera but such a joy to use.

Love Pentax gear.

I only have a dSLR, but I love putting old film lenses on it.

Never shot medium format, but I bet that’s fun.

Do occasionally use film (on Olympus) - it’s still amazing and better in many ways.

I’m not too familiar with the modern Pentax lineup but my first 35mm SLR was a Program A and I love it, went on to get a couple Super A’s as well and then eventually stepped up to the 6x7 and it’s probably been one of my best investments in years, can’t imagine life without it now. If you ever get a chance to shoot on me skim format, I’d highly recommend it. The quality of photos is amazing!

I did a fair bit of film photography back in my uni days, but now shoot on a budget Canon 7d. Use a couple of vintage lenses I've still got kicking around, and a basic 18-55. Mostly shoot landscapes and macro.

Yeah what an excellent camera. I use the 67ii as when I had the 6x7 I kept having issues with the battery. The glass on them though! Only mamiya 7 can contest

I’ve read about issues with the battery. *touch wood* I’ve had no such issue.

The Mamiya 7 seems to be a beast for landscapes, which aren’t really my thing. The only other camera/lens combo I’d love to get is the Mamiya RZ67 with the 110 2.8. The shots from that are smooth as butter!
