Not unique to Birmingham but just stating the fact there is alot of knife and gun crime.

Lived here all my life and seen the changes.

A new tram system that doesnt work, a Council that is running out of money and wasting money. Have a friend that works for the Council and he tells me how terrible the Council is.

Birmingham was better in the 90s and early 2000s.

It already had those things you mentioned..lol.

It has not improved since then. Its gone downhill.

If Birmingham is such a great place why is it not attracting more visitors to the City?

I have been in Birmingham alot and you never see people stopping to take pics of the area/building/area.

When is the last time you seen a tour bus around Birmingham?

The Council has a major problem attracting ppl into the City and that is why they bidded on the commonwealth games that we didnt want.

After living in Alum Rock for over a decade, I can honestly say that you are wrong. There are not "too many immigrants", but a healthy amount that helps to bring additional culture to what is a vibrant (if a slightly run down) city. I will always have strong ties to the city that bought me up and will defend it to the hilt.

OK, so I'm now working in Birmingham on a contract with the Commonwealth Games.

One of the things I was told in my first week was about the bidding process.

Liverpool and Birmingham both b his, and it was a late change after South Africa pulled out.

"Liverpool wanted the Games, and Birmingham needed it"

And it's for for the whole region, though majority of events are in Birmingham.

The inward investment in infrastructure, facilities and people is amazing.

They will deliver a tremendous amount of tourism and employment over the last few and forthcoming years.

The city centre is being rejuvenated and transport is getting better; ok there are problems with the Metro, shouldn't have bought Spanish, but they are being resolved.

I'm enjoying my time around here.

The canals and areas around the centre, Jewellery Quarter and Edgbaston are lovely, especially now the summer evenings are here

I'm from Birmingham. It's a shit hole. Nutters preaching religious crap around the town and beggers everywhere. Crime is ridiculous, it's a foreign country there now. Traffic always a major problem and road works all over the place. The commonwealth games won't regenerate the place and help the people that need it, they are simply for big business who will make lots and then move one. Some sports will be held across the area but these are token gestures.

If you fancy a spa day in the buff Clover Spa is a short train ride from New Street Station.

Also if you want to get out and about you can get a West Midlands travel day ticket for the bus/trams (currently not running)/trains.

The Post Office Vaults is worth a visit if you want access to a wide selection of global beer.

The Indian Brewery under Snow Hill station arches is good for beer and Indian snacks and street food.

I couldn't agree more. Yes Birmingham has it's problems but show me a city that doesn't. Certainly not Liverpool, Manchester or London. Birmingham has a huge amount going for it and I'm fed up to the back teeth with people slagging it off. It's just lazy prejudice.

"What are some fun things to do in Birmingham central when visiting for a few days?"

I know a couple of wonderful people that are fun to do things with in Birmingham. I like parts of the city I’ve explored so far too. Will be returning happily.

It has it’s good points, but sadly, it’s bad points are getting worse and far outweigh the good. The caz puts many off, as well as expensive parking.

Public transport is poor & expensive.

Like most cities, there are parts of Birmingham that are pretty much no go areas.

I rarely visit now.

Same with us.

Expensive place to visit.

Was there yesterday and streets and shops were empty.

Plymouth

The jam house in st Paul's square is great , jewellery quarter is interesting and very nice.

Digbeth is great fun with a eclectic range of bars...the night owl is a great little club...
