"Just got back with the OH from seeing it. Will write a bit more tomorrow... I would say its a good thriller, but a sub-standard Bond. Adele doing a d*unken karoke about apple crumbles don't help "
Warning.... may contain spoilers for those who have not scene it!!!! See below.
Looking through, it seems only one other person agrees with me.
My OH really likes Craig, so we went to see the film. I hate Craig as an actor with a passion, not a word I use lightly.
With the film...
The opening scenes were really good, it goes back to the Bond of old with a great chase and remarkably, for Craig, some humour.
I liked the plot. I can imagine in the world of terrorism and espionage, that computer genii are a threat. Especially as keyboard warriors seem to be a growing phenonenom.
The film looked great, Sam Mendes is a great director and he made it look good. The baddie is great and I loved the scene at the baddies 'lair'
In all it was a good thriller, but I stick to my original statement, that it is not a great Bond....
The set at the casino looked great, but was pointless. Komodo dragons? What bollox, but a nice nod to Lie and Let Die
The sniper scene in the tower was beautifully shot, but seen it before in Mission Impossible. But a nice nod to the Man with the Golden Gun.
The set scene at the end, way to much Kevin from Home Alone and not enough Bond. The only thing missing was swinging paint cans and a baddie catching his head alight and put it down the toilet.
A welcome return to the Aston Martin, but all the nods to the past, makes you realise that Craig's Bonds are poor in relation.
My fav scene was Bond sitting in the dark at M's house. Fantastic silhouette, that made it look like Shrek was waiting for a chat with the head of MI6.
And therein lies the problem for me. Craig does not look like a Bond. As I said, my OH loves Craig, but even she came out of there saying he looked like shit. Bond should look exquisite in a tux, he looks like Steptoe. Bond should have confidence and a cold humour. Craig has no humour at all and looked extremely uncomfortable saying the 'funny' lines. He is a terrible, single facetted actor who makes tom Cruise look like Lawrence Olivier in comparrison.
For those who rattle on about he is true to the books, have you read them? I have and I dont think Craig portrays the Bond of the books.
As I said, I liked the film, but as a stand alone film, not a Bond. Craig is truly awful, but this is his best Bond so far.
My only worry is that who they replace him with..... |
