Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Saturday Live (Radio 4) has a slot where people can say thank you for the help they received and didn't have the opportunity at the time.

Have you got a thank you that you couldn't give at the time?

Yes, but mine is a good few years past now. But there is an AA driver out there who helped me and looked after me when I got run over at 18. I owe him a big thank you.

He's a very nice man.

I love that slot (ooh matron!). I can’t think of anyone I’d mention but I do bear it in mind if I encounter anyone that needs help. Sometimes, even the smallest gesture can help or make a big difference to someone.

Thanks for not laughing at my awful dancing at the wedding.

Couldn't say it at the time as was somewhat shitfaced......

I hope you have thanked at least some of them more personally.

Thank you for responding.

That is exactly the sort of story that we need to read.

There are good people out there.

You never know the difference you make in someone's life.

I had a week up in Northumberland recently. While there a friend sent me a text and let me know that someone had saved his life 65 years ago where I was staying. He was so young he doesn't know if his parents thanked the man that saved him.

(I love the Thank You slot too.)

Thanks for having me (not like that, obviously).

Your dancing had nothing on the mankini!

My blushes, and possibly, more were saved by a black cab driver when I was 22. I was very, very messily sloshed in the City and cabs weren't stopping for me. I decided to disrobe. A kindly cabbie stopped, took him home, didn't charge me and waited until I got inside before driving off.

Thank you, unknown cabbie.

Plenty. They’ll say they were doing their job. I say they were like guardian angels. Quite literally flying in to save lives.

Memories that will last with me until my dying day. And I wouldn’t have brothers today if it wasn’t for them.

I think we all have the capacity for a little bit of angelic behaviour.

To everyone who uses Reply Privately on Fab just to say kind words! Not everyone has the courage/inclination to post publicly here sometimes.

I'd like to say a big Thank You to my GP, for probably saving my life a year ago. I wasn't well and when I saw him, he said if I'd have left it a few more days before contacting him I would have been in a quite serious situation, as in life-threatening.

I saw him again two days later, but never saw him again. Turns out it was his last week at the surgery before he retired.

I said thank you via PM to the lovely Fabbers who looked out for me at the weekend and chaperoned me through the melee and night time dangers. There's nothing more attractive (or invisible, in a bar) to random d*unk people than a wheelchair, unfortunately

That's a great thank you. I'm sure the surgery could pass on a no, if you want to say thanks.

Thank you to the one teacher in high school that saw me for more than the self conscious sheep that followed the wrong crowd that I had become. I always meant to visit the school to say it in person. Sadly he passed away before I got chance

Under the Duvet

Someone gave me a fiver once years ago when I was beyond skint, in the days when a fiver was worth a lot more than it is now.

I can still remember the difference that fiver made all these years later.

I think I thanked them at the time but I don't think they realised what a significant difference it made to me at the time .

Bless em.

You've said it here, now. If you get the chance, and inclination, use his lesson and pay it forward.

Good for you.

Sometimes circumstances mean that we don't realise we've been helped, or we're not in a position to say thank you. Like to all the blood donors that have saved my life more than once - thank you.
