Gold or Silver Pass.

Again (my opinion), I've always found the Silver pass to be of better value than the gold. They last longer and give you the same benefits. There is no way anyone can max out the Gold pass in the 30-day time frame. So why not get the Silver pass instead?

I think Gold mainly just lets you put up more pics (so I go gold!). I places you higher when Fab needs to order too, I think. I think having at least one of the two does look more committed to some people on Fab. But only some!

Personally I like to see who's looked at me from time to time, and check out the videos and one or two other benefits too. Sadly some people just can't pay here due to phone/bank-related privacy concerns (and others are just too mean lol!) The biggest misconception is that Fab rakes it in - it doesn't. Server space and bandwidth will cost a fortune here, there are countless millions of constant clicks a day, day and night (and those just by me sometimes!) --

I prefer silver, I like to the support the site and it gives me the bits that I need, like making private notes and seeing how far away somebody is from me. It's always very interesting when they tell me that they are in my area, and they are 250 miles away.

Is it really that hard to work out what we're paying for here? I've never had a problem with it.

Nothing wrong with chucking em a couple more quid anyway surely (accidental or otherwise), this site only breaks-even and they need some people's money to run it obviously (most don't pay of course, but that's the model here). At the end of the day it doesn't have ads or sell our data like all the media places we are accustomed to seeing as 'free'. I get loads form it personally, so it's well worth both the silver and gold price too to me (even if I would probably just pay silver if it wasn't for the extra pics).

Back when we were meeting we'd only ever used to get one as it meant we could add more photos.

It's perfectly possible to successfully use the site without upgrading. There isn't really one function that is essential to boost your odds of getting a meet so whilst the site still has a free option then why not take advantage of it?

People are used to so-called 'free' social media now, but Fab doesn't actually sell our data or hit us with advertising, and according to them they only break-even (which I fully believe given the constant use of this place).

Supporting the site is great of course. There is advertising if you're not a site supporter and given most user data doesn't include full names, addresses, telephone numbers etc. there's only a small amount of data that could potentially be sold.

I doubt it's just a 'break even' business. Never has been.

There's currently 28,690 members online.

If 10% of those paid £5 a month that's £14,180

And that's just 10% of the current online number, not 10% of the whole site membership will be considerably higher.

It doesn't cost £168k to have a basic website hosted annually.

--I'm afraid it DOES cost figures like that... both to pay for and maintain.

Fab isn't remotely as 'basic' as you think.

The truth is it costs a lot of money to run hugely-popular, highly-involved and intensely-used sites like these.

Just think first about what thousands of people are doing every second.... click, click, click, click, click... How often does it slow down?

The databases are in harmony for profile viewing, and only at peak scale down for picture querying (with combined picture uploads and viewing fenzies it seems!).

Fab also integrates GPS (for instant location) and it offers instant messages to all of us.

It has classic web and mobile sites that work seamlessly together (you can log into both).

It gives members an option to hosts hundreds of pictures (and many do), so will have considerable storage space as well as bandwidth costs!

I don't understand why some people are so cynical of Fab's claims. Maybe it's all the silly "publicly traded" and "terms have changed" nonsense! As it goes (and ironically enough) Fab is a reasonably ethical business - a labour of 'love' it could be said. --

Personally I trust what they say. It adds up with what I see on here, and I don't see any reason not to. --

--Was that the point eh? You don't have to be a charity to choose to run at low/no profit! Fab has said it's what they choose to do.

And obviously a complete breakdown would tell us what their outgoings are exactly.

Anyway it's proving hard to get Fab's details from the parent company. If only (for society in general I would say) Companies House was that compliant!--
