Taking into account some recent threads:

When does a hug become a cuddle or vice versa?

Would you rather a cuddle or a hug?

Would you hug some people but not cuddle them?

I’d say a hug would most likely to be done when greeting/saying good bye. Where as you could be cuddling in bed or on the sofa?

I could be completely wrong though…

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I'd agree with this. I think it's about length and intimacy of embrace.

Cuddling is intimate. I hug/ squeeze my friends when they need. Cuddling is like laying on the other or being held for me

I agree, a hug is a greeting usually vertical, a cuddle is normally sitting or laying down.

Yeah defo agree with that, what about when someone is sad? I often say things like “sending hugs” but if I’m hugging for ages is it a cuddle? Or are hugs only a standing up thing?

Hugs are just that a hug standing up sitting down fully clothed

Cuddles are laying in bed after the act

I would say a hug is like a singular embrace but cuddling is extended. Kinda like a bite compared to having a meal

Sound good to me but before or after or instead of the act also good

Chinese Takeaway near you

Would define 'hug' as a physical form of greeting someone

Cuddle as a physical form of providing comfort/reassurance

One I can share with anyone the other is reserved for only close companions

Yeah I think this is sort of where I’m at, except the “sending hugs” thing which is also linked to comfort/reassurance. Hmmmmm.

Hugs are what nieces/nephews/godchildren do despite you not wanting any form of interaction.

Cuddles are for animals.

All about stamina. A hug is premature cuddle, and a cuddle continues.

-When it's a cwtch.

A hug is more of a gesture, a familiar version of a handshake. Lasting roughly the same amount of time. Sometimes extending to an embrace during emotional moments.

A cuddle is a relaxed form of embrace and is modified for different positions. It could be spooning, or head on shoulder with arm around. Head on lap etc.

Hmmmm I wonder if I can dissect it even more and take out all the intimacy from it...
