Which ones do you like and mean alot to you ? Some are so sad .Are there up lifting Hymns that make the heart sing .

I must admit to being a bit of a heathen where hymns are concerned.

I am pretty much fucked at weddings or funerals unless they have happened to choose 'Morning has broken'

Jerusalem for me , although I can't sing to it without getting a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. It was sung at the first funeral I went to my grandmothers.

It's foreign (Portuguese) and I dunno why, but her voice sends me.

The translation is of the title is 'The Shepherd'

The translation of the words is :

Hsve to agree fully with this choice. It gets to me each and every time I hear it and I blub like there's no tomorrow!

I once heard it sung at the annual convention of the Sweet Adelines, the female version of Barbershop Quartets. Six hundred ladies, all in perfect harmony, singing this wonderful tune at the close of their competition.

There wasn't a dry eye in the hotel convention centre; I'm getting goosebumps thinking about it right now!

I love the dirgy ones. My favourite is a communion hymn - Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence. It's the best bit of church (apart from Jevohah's - sorry, but I can't get on with your hymns).

Personally I think hymns at funerals are naff and pointless, unless the deceased was a regular church goer and was known for having favourite hymns they loved to sing. It is much more meaningful to have songs or music which meant something to the person, music which people can connect to the person and will bring out the memories of the good times in their life.
