Just a thought triggered by a real life experience. Do you walk with condoms? Do you take condoms with you on dates?

I do not. I am not presumptuous enough to bring it with me to a date and also I genuinely don’t know a scenario in which I would need the condom when out? If we go back to either person’s home, I have condoms there and hope they would too (otherwise it’s a no brainier to leave anyway). WHAT IS THE THOUGHT PROCESS? HELP?!

This is a fair point but I think it would be more awful to go to someone else’s house (for a meet) and they didn’t have condoms. Would be pretty off putting for me. I always have condoms at home

I hear you from this perspective. I guess in my experience women buying condoms isn’t that deep to them. Most of my friends that are women buy them and partners of mine do too.

Context is on a first date I left out without condoms and got told off when invited back to hers. I said to her well I had not presumed to have sex. And even when we went back to hers - she came onto me, I was expecting to chill for a bit then dip home. (Maybe I was a bit innocent here). Anyway I said if I don’t take condoms out because I expect people (that are dating) to have condoms at home because I do.

By the way genuinely until doing this thread I would never have sex with someone that didn’t have condoms in their house but maybe that’s me being a bit harsh? Maybe a bit of the patriarchy at play too? But I’m learning so thank you

Yes it is because in that context (arrange to meet at theirs for sex) I’m presuming sex. By presumptuous here I meant - that I would be ok with sex without a condom. Which some people are - I am not. Sorry if I wasn’t clear there

On a more serious note, condoms can be used as a make-shift face mask when performing CPR. That stops you getting vomit in your mouth when giving the kiss of life. So if your ever in a first aid situation and someones performing CPR, be a darling and offer them that out-of-date condom you've been carrying around!

We both have condoms on us all the time. If you don’t need them that’s fine. If you do need them then you’ll be grateful you’ve got them. You don’t want to be in a situation of needing them and not having them, then compromising your safety or missing out on fun.

When I was a teenager/early 20s I wouldn't go for a night out without one. Because part of a night out was chatting up women before everyone used the Internet for dating and/or promiscuous sex. Because simply you never knew where the night would end up or who bed you'd be in (most women don't have a machine in their bedroom).

Then in later years when I was dating and going on meets I would also carry one. Same philosophy to be prepared because you never know how things would pan out. By no means a statement of intent. I expect a social to be a social. However in my experience when the chemistry is right a date or a social can get a bit heated and your glad you came prepared.

I've always carried a couple in my handbag - earlier years as a Fab member, the amount of fellas that said they didn't have any condoms whether at theirs (or other venue) was educational.

Since the first fella who said they didn't have any (and it was his home!), I was taking no chances nor assumed anything was going to happen, just protecting myself. We've all got a responsibility.

Tbf when I’ve worn uncomfortable ones I have just kind of tried to firm it but also tbf I usually have partners round to mine so have my own. On a first date date (not fab) which my experience was I didn’t really want to go out with condoms and tbh I probably wouldn’t have sex on a first date again after the experience anyway.
