Eat Venison

Over 2 million Venison animals are roaming this land. They cause damage and the Top man in charge of most of our trees says 14000 are culled each year and there are no wolves or lynx cats to keep the numbers low. His solution is to eat more of the Venisons.

I would rather eat them then bring back these big cats.

Why can't we feed the poor with the Venison

Who would pay for the deer to be transported to the abattoir, humanely killed, their carcusses made into steaks, refrigerated then transported to food banks ?

I thought they only chased foxes and craftily stalked venison ...

I would like to see a cooperative system of culling deer, slaughterhouses owned by the people and distribution to those in need. Yes it costs money but the poor could work in that supply chain too.

Because it’s expensive. It’s not regular meat, it’s considered ‘game’ and needs to be hung to be matured. This takes time. It’s not like you kill/slaughter a bull then butcher it and put it in bags….

It’s also healthier than other meats as it’s leaner.

I’d like to see Lynx & Wolves back in the wilds

Maybe but it’s not a necessity it can be eaten as soon as it’s butchered.

While we’re at it.. buffalo is also healthier than regular beef, but has a stronger taste.

There’s also wild bunnies, pheasant, pigeon, & fish all free…. But are you man (or woman) enough to kill then gut it? I couldn’t

"Leave them alone! X"

Not all species of deer are native to these shores.

The muntjac deer was introduced into the UK from China in the 20th century. It has gained a stronghold in southeast England, where it can cause damage to our woods through browsing.

Species information

Category

Mammals

Statistics

Length: 77-91cm

Shoulder height: 45-52cm

Weight: 10-17kg

Average lifespan: 10-13 years

Conservation status

Invasive, non-native species. Protected in the UK under the Deer Act 1991.

When to see

January to December

"Leave them alone! X"

Unfortunately not feasible.

Human intervention has caused the decline of other natural predators. Which means the deer population would go unchecked and become over populated. Causing terrible destruction to both their own habitat and our own.

We as a species caused this problem in the first place, but leaving them alone is the absolute worst solution (except killing them all, which would be just as bad).

I say this as an animal lover and despise all forms of unnecessary Animal cruelty.

You can tell if only the rich ate it, the names are French, if the poor ate it then it's English.

PORK (PORC): pig

BEEF (BOEUF): cow

Dagneau: lamb, then hogget for the 2 yea olds and mutton

for the older years.

We still have cultural hangovers form the Normans, never mind the Victorians.

Venison can be killed, butchered and eaten, it is far better, like most meat, to hang it.

And yes, killing, paunching and cooking rabbits is something I have done along with shooting, plucking, drawing and cooking pheasants.

I believe If you can’t stomach the procedure that enables you to eat meat, then you should refrain from eating meat.

Until they start attacking weaker prey than deer. Sheep, calves, chickens, goats, eventually domestic cats and dogs......it's bad enough with foxes causing damage to livestock in the countryside without adding more apex predators into the equation.

Got a couple of Muntjac living in a bramble patch just over the hedge from me. The Farmer has left them a set aside and whilst they can often be seen grazing in the middle of the field he tolerates them.

I love to glance up from my laptop and watch them. Be a bit shit if a Lynx came by and cleared them out. Not much meat on them anyway. Tiny little things.

Didn't Mr Botham donate all the game from the season for food bank meals?

The deer numbers need to be controlled and there's no sense in all that meat going to waste. There are deer farms in the UK that produce venison but they can't use the wild population.
