I feel I'm ready to start dating again after 2 years of being single, I think online is the way to go but there's a zillion sites, POF seems popular but I'm looking for your recommendations or success stories

POF and Badoo are literally the council estates of dating sites.

Tinder is new build estate.

Bumble is the suburbs.

Each have their positives and negatives. For sheer numbers of members Tinder wins.

POF tends to be mainly single mums if that’s your thing

Tinder has the biggest user base

Bumble makes women message 1st which is useless because they just say “hi”

Hinge is apparently better up north but it lets you send a message with your like so that’s a good thing if you can make it funny

You'll probably have just as much luck on here. When i tried dating sites, Hinge seemed to be about the best.

Most of my meets came from ‘Bumble’ it seems to have more genuine women on the site as well. You or I don’t seem to get as many matches that’s all.

Another bit of advice is after a month or so hide your profile for a week. Nothing worse than seeing the same faces coming up regularly.

I had a lot of fun on POF, met some lovely women. When I changed my profile header to

‘Far from an Angel, but not a player’, I met some really interesting women.

Happy days.

All pretty much the same, just take it all with a laid back attitude. You’ll get matches and dates but also scams, catfish, flakes, players all sorts

Good luck in the dating game

PoF is free, easy to use and has good features like being able to hide your profile from galleries etc and only be visible to people you contact. Not sure if other sites have this facility.

Plenty of females on there looking for nooky primarily and it is not unusual to score a 'hole in one'.

Never tried any others but I go right back to box numbers in Loot and similar publications. Those were the days!

I've never heard POF described so accurately. The live section is an eye opener where you can see what people REALLY look and sound like rather than their pictures. I've seen 2 people in the last 4 months that look like their pictures so bear that in mind.

The only other ones I'd offer up are OKcupid and Hinge. Hinge is a lot more serious and has better quality of users. (Well certainly in Scotland anyway)

I quite like fb dating and bumble. Actually “like” is a bit strong but there seems to be more genuine people on there.

Be warned, online dating is fucking soul destroying.

Stay away!!!

POF if you want single mum maybe a bit wreckless, good chance she'll slit your tyres.

Tinder if you want boring, conversations about reality TV, fake tan, brush up on your slang there's lots of new words which you won't know the meaning of.

Bumble if you want middle class, I'm better than you but it's my mum and dad's money I'm using.

Badoo if you want an STD and fast.

I was using badoo and tinder when I was single. Was attending a club at the same time, ending up meeting someone at clubf, and we went on to get married.

Heard a lot of bad stuff about POF

I think I’d swerve POF as most men local to me seem to be on here too! I’ve stopped looking and I’m leaving my dating life to fate.

What will be will be. And if I die a lonely old woman with 25 cats and a half eaten leg, so be it.

I took a look at Bumble but was put off by their suggested opening lines to use instead of 'Hey!'.

One began with 'Lol' and another used the word 'gonna'.

At that point I thought 'If this is middle class, I despair for the present day middle class.

Thank God I'm first class!

Nevertheless, I attempted to join. First hurdle was you have to use Apple or Facebook or for poor relations like me, a phone number. I flummoxed them by supplying a number that is only on a dumbphone. Process came to a grindr ing halt!

Most dating sites are a washout these days. If you meet very exact and specific requirements and expect nothing in return you'll do great.

Better off meeting people in real life. Dating sites have become a cesspool of people bereft of character and so shallow it's unreal.
