Does vinegar know what colour it is ?

I have a method to clean my hob that calls for white vinegar.....

I have malt vinegar or cider vinegar...

Will my hob know ? Will the vinegar know ?

My nan’s spare room.

Surely all vinegar should be treated equally.

If you clean with malt vinegar you'll never get rid of the smell.

Take it from one who has tried.

Is it the same as distilled vinegar? I’ve been looking for some to clean with but not sure if it’s the right stuff if sold in the condiments area!

Hello there ! You are right! Rather than disappoint the vinegar I turned to lemon....

It was yellow.

If you're buying the supermarket stuff, brown vinegar is just white vinegar with added caramel for colouring. Use that on your hob and you'll be leaving a thin layer of carbonised sugar all over your lovely shiny metal. Once won't hurt but regular use will ruin your hob.

Check the ingredients list before applying.

"So why doesn't brown vinegar smell of caramel ?"

Because they only put a small amount in, just enough to get the colour, and because the smell of acetic acid completely overpowers everything else.
