All about the points and loyalty..

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Up until a few years ago, the closest I ever really got to being a points geek was using my Tesco clubcard points to get cheap channel tunnel tickets..

When researching a travel location, I discovered a mind boggling world of loyalty, and I have never looked back..

Now, on almost everything I purchase, I earn points for a variety of loyalty brands, whether Nectar, Avios, American express, virgin flying club, etc..

I no longer use my current account for purchases, everything goes on a points earning credit card and is paid off regularly to avoid any shocks..

I have worked out the ways to double up my points by making purchases through purchasing portals, for instance, logging into Sainsburys through virgin Virgin Red to get both nectar and virgin points on my groceries.

And as for status, I have attained mid and top tier loyalty status at a number of hotel chains through status challenges and requesting status match with other hotel brands.. some aren't worth much while others get me room upgrades, free breakfast and lounge access and free stays..

I'm sure I'm not the only points geek on Fab, so for those who have no idea about points, what gems of wisdom can you pass on or what clever ways of amassing points have you discovered?

Same... Just got the new Tesco+ card, so I can earn points on everything I buy.

Always use Too Cashback, then cash that out into Tesco vouchers, as you get extra.

Got a Tesco SIM, that earns points and I use my points to pay for it, as they're worth double.

Airtime rewards is good, you just load your cards up that you use, and earn cash back in places like Boots, Gregg's, Primark, loads of online shops.

Nectar... They give you offers with extra points, so I always buy what's on there, if it's a similar price. Earned loads of extra points doing that.

Some of those offers are pretty good, definitely worth checking out every week..

I used to but don't spend enough now to make it worthwhile.

I've discovered that buying off ebay you get nectar points once you've registered your nectar cars. 37p credit yesterday

Tesco clubcard Vs non clubcard prices is disgusting ...it's like 99p for a bag of doritos with a clubcard ....without a clubcard you need to contact your bank manager and ask him to increase your overdraft limit ...disgrace ..just so Tesco can sell my email details off

Well as long as I can get my AlJazera coffee (or whatever its called) for 2 and a half quid, they can sell my email address to who they like..

In fact, it's even at the end my fab profile, just incase anyone else wants to make a few sheckles from it..

Tesco really do sell your data. Just not for 'marketing purposes', as per their small print.

Im a total points tart, i never was until about 5 years ago when some e introduced me to a few secrets. I did a month in India first class flights and hotels on points 3years ago

Have 1750,000 Virgin Atlantic miles , gold so get the lounges and free food and drink and 64,000 Marriot points titanium Elite also free nights, free breakfasts, suites, food and drink between 6 & 8pm.

My nectar is linked to Ebay Amex Nectar, Sainsbury’s credit card, so pays around £1000 each Christmas.

I do everything via Quidco if possible around £500 -£1000 a year and take the bonuses for switching current and savings like Marcus, Atom & the new Chase account which pays 1.5% on all savings and 5% on all round ups

I just started using Chase over Revolut for all purchasing - live spot rates and zero fee, unlimited spend, I’m trying to max the roundups at 5% interest !

I don’t use Avios

" I have attained mid and top tier loyalty status at a number of hotel chains through status challenges and requesting status match with other hotel brands.. "

This is not well known but you just need to ask for it some have a policy and some don’t. I recently stayed at Swiss hotel in Dubai, it’s part of Accor group. I asked at checkin then emailed the head of rewards my Marriot info they gave me the status / upgrade no hassle

Many hotels will do status match to another chains status you hold.

Many airlines will also status match, BA is currently running a match promotion. Costs nothing to get and doesn't hurt to hold silver or gold status with BA..

On the subject of Avios, Qatar Airlines are offering 2500 for signing up to their loyalty programme. These can be transferred to BA avios for free..

That’s useful to know. I fly VA normally but have to use Emirates to UAE as VA don’t do the route , but I see BA fly it and they also do Nigeria
