Never thought anything of it until I started working outside of Dorset but apparently our phrase of ….

“Where’s that to?”

… as in ….

“Where is that”

….threw many of my colleagues from further up north.

Also keep getting told my accent is posh but I promise you nothing is further from the truth lol

Also whilst I think of it, I got ridiculed for pronouncing “tomorrow” as “tah-mare-row” and “was” as “wuz”

I live near a place where half the town pronounces a word differently to the other half of the town. This very localised invisible geographical boundary is called an Isogloss. The word in question is "House", which is pronounced "Arse" by half of the inhabitants.

I love the UKs language cultural heritage, there's what, 30 miles between Liverpool and Manchester, and...

Makes me laugh when Americans say "Oh I love the British accent!" - which one??!?

I pick up the local accents quite easily, when I am in the area, what I can't do is the local dialects. My accent is fairly straight and unassuming, unless I switch my (North) Welsh Accent into my speech (typically when I get annoyed).

Ones that come from the general south east of England do it for me. Not sure if it's contrast from hearing a Yorkshire accent all the time or something else, but they are somewhat intoxicating

….threw many of my colleagues from further up north.

Also keep getting told my accent is posh but I promise you nothing is further from the truth lol

Also whilst I think of it, I got ridiculed for pronouncing “tomorrow” as “tah-mare-row” and “was” as “wuz”"

As an illegal imigrant to the country I'm not always sure what are local sayings and what are expressions that have been invented by her ladyship and used so often everyone in her family knows and understands them while I haven't a clue. I swear that woman is one step away from having a GCSE course written as a new modern language option.
