wirral

I saw this little news story about a couple whowanted to get married in a 5 star hotel and the wedding planner wanted tofind a way to stop them.

I wonder how many hotels find ways to get rid of potential guests and what methods they use...

..A couple have spoken of their shock after the wedding planner at a luxury hotel where they hoped to get married described them as not the "type of people that we would want".

Pauline Bailey said she and her fiance Paul Carty decided they wanted to hold their wedding at Stoke Park, a five-star hotel in Buckinghamshire that has featured in two James Bond films.

But she said she felt "crushed" after Michele Connelly, the venue's wedding planner, sent an email to her manager Carlo Zoccali but also forwarded it to Miss Bailey by mistake.

In the email, Ms Connelly said she needed his advice.

"I know this probably doesn't sound very nice, but I am trying to put this wedding off as I don't think they are the type of people that we would want to have at Stoke Park," she said.

Miss Bailey, speaking on ITV's Daybreak, said the email left the couple shocked.

"It was devastating. At the time it was pretty crushing, really. I am actually over it now," she said.

A spokesman for the hotel said the email was sent in April.

"We cannot comment for legal reasons but what we can say is that it is a very unfortunate matter for which we apologised profusely to Pauline and Paul within 24 hours of this email being sent," he said.

"The opinions expressed were in no way a reflection of the opinions of Stoke Park. We are an extremely welcoming and friendly hotel and we are inclusive of everyone. Everyone is welcome."

I saw it as well, i think they should put on a free wedding for them. Doesnt matter who you are if you have the money to pay for it

To be honest i hope the women went through the ringer.

I used to work in a 4* and we had some lovely weddings that people used to pay through the noses for even though they didn't have that kind of money.

Your wedding day is very special to you and you spend as much as you can.

Sometimes taking years to pay back.

Saying that we had some very well to do people that spent a fortune.

The nephew repaid the invitation by ripping the tv off the wall smashing half the furniture in the room Then putting a blooming great hole in the wall

A wedding wouldn't be a cheap affair, a nice earner for the hotel, how nice to know this hotel must be making so much money that they can be picky with their customers

London

Business must be good if they can pick and choose. The wedding planner must be mortified...bless her.

But surely the premises in question are allowed a say in who they want in their hotel?

Yes they can, but i beleive the wedding was going to cost around £10000, lucky them if they can afford to throw business away. If they dont want certain people they should have a "critera".

How long would that couple of been looking for a venue, saving up ect. Then to accidently recieve an email like that, yes it was accidently but how would you have felt

Ye, i see your point, and i would have felt humiliated by how i had found out, i.e. The e-mail! But, bearing in mind, this hotel is the same one that the bond movie, goldfinger, was filmed in, i imagine they have a very high standard of clientele they wish to keep!

Well my sister was married at the ice palace in finland and thats only built for three months of the year, not the one james bond was filmed thats the one in sweden i think.

Like i said, they can choose but in which case they should set some kind of criteria, not waste normal peoples time and effort.

To be fair tho, we don't know the exact ins n outs of what went on at the initial meeting between both parties! Maybe the hotel ARE biased in their thinking, but, maybe the couple slipped up in 1 or 2 questions that raised a few eyebrows?

The venue can reserve right as to the clientèle it chooses to do business with, plain and simple. It doesn't have to give give grounds as to why, it can simply refuse the business.

All this is plea for some PR on national TV by some Z-lister.

I don't think the hotel actually knew anything about what she does for a living. The groom has been described as 'shaven headed, with earrings in both ears...' Not for me to judge, but the hotel might have thought they were 'not their sort'....

As for them not being able to afford to turn away business, this is the place which is used as 'Shrublands', the golf course in Goldfinger, and also in Never Say Never Again (as a health spa) so no doubt any 'Bondies' who are getting married would be queuing up to have it as their venue.

Mind you - If I were the owner, I'd be sacking the Planner for being incompetant, as she's clearly not computer literate! Lol!

Considering the email was sent 6 months ago and they've only just gone to the press I have to agree.
