Films ruined by CGI

couple, us we him her.

CGI is everywhere you can't escape it, I would imagine that most films have some sort of CGI .

But obviously big blockbuster movies Sci-Fi movies and the like are relying on it more and more.

Some don't age well and look bad.

And some I don't understand why they have it.

It's refreshing to see an action film with proper stunt's.

Can you guys think of an example of a movie ruined by CGI or one with shockingly bad CGI

As he's in the news.

Will Smith's recent film

Totally ruined by poor and lazy CGI.

Not a movie but a trilogy

The Hobbit trilogy specifically the third one

Avatar hasn’t aged that well either

Most modern horror films. The Conjuring showed that you don’t need CGI to make a good horror film.

The trend of making actors look like their younger selves.

Horrible just horrible.

Agreed some of it can be good but just hire a younger actor its not too difficult.

All the Sharknado’s.

With such amazing scriptwriters it’s a shame the CGI let them down.

My nan’s spare room.

Titanic was seen as a triumph for CGI personally I thought it was the worst part of the film.

I'm not going to say most of them because you have things like Dunkirk which were pretty much all CGI and incredible.

I'd like to say Most modern films are ruined by bad CGI, or at least unnecessary CGI. There's a charm about using physical props and mattes

The prequel to The Thing was ruined by CGI. It was going to be mainly practical effects when it came to the creatures but the studio screwed them over and painted over the practical effects with CGI.

"What is CGI?"

A secret government organisation.

Or possibly something to do with gerbils.

Not 100%.

Very few movies are ruined by bad cgi, more often than not truely bad cgi is just a part of a bad movie. Sometimes you may get the odd exception.

CGI is everywhere, most people won't even realise it. Majority of the background is cgi for example.

Some movies have instances of bad cgi, or an overuse of it. But some movies just would not look the same or just be able to be made without it.

You could not have a decent Spiderman movie without cgi for example. An actor/stuntman could not effectively or realistically pull off those superhuman swings and you would end up with some 70s made for TV shit.

Some cgi is just a product of its time, The Lawnmower man, is terrible but it was 1992, it was far too ambitious with what it wanted to do. While just a year before Terminator 2 was released with amazing T1000 cgi.

Jurassic Park cgi holds up, BUT creative choices were done to make sure it did just that, most of the cgi was used during night scenes with little lightning to adjust to.

Majority of the time (not all) bad cgi just comes down to budget and studio pressure for deadlines.

Superman's lip in Justice League, modern and truly terribble! There is no excuse for how bad that is.

I think some practical effects are often just as bad and to be honest even worse than a bad cgi effect.

Wirral

Deep Blue Sea.

Bitter sweet as the practical effects for the robotic sharks were absolutely incredible!!

Then they went with some cheap looking CGI which hasn't aged well in the slightest.

Worthing

Star Wars A New Hope. I am not sure what Lucas was thinking with this one. Yes, by all means 'remaster' it but the added cgi was strange.

An American Werewolf in Paris. The film was bad anyway but the originals practical transformation scene is unique and terrifying.

Cgi transformation...meh
