There is alot of talk of other platforms for messaging after getting to know someone on here (Stick to fab, Kik, Whatsapp, Snapchat etc).

What are you preferred platforms and why?

Kik if we plan to meet. WhatsApp once we’ve met. Here for anything else.

I stay on here.

For me kik is dying, too many cams and messages from people I don’t know. Plus since I found out there’s an app that puts the “live” on pictures I don’t trust it.

If we click here then whattsapp and a voice and video call

Telegram, now I know how to hide my number !

Once upon a time it was Kik. Can't stand it now.

Here until we agree to meeting, then it's WhatsApp.

Hand written letters for me.

Then, once we really hit it off, email.

We just stay on here. WhatsApp is owned by Facebook so don’t be surprised if people from here pop up in the “people you may know” section.

We’ve heard nothing but complaints about all the anonymous messaging apps so stay away from them.

You turn off the ability for people to add you to random groups. I was inundated with spam but found a setting to turn it of. Now it's just people I wanna talk to.

Whatsapp seems to be the best messaging app, is everything else just a stepping stone to maintain some level of privacy before moving onto Whatsapp which has phone number connection

Easy one telegram no ads and can be anonymous

If I have met them sometimes move to WhatsApp but usually keep them in telegram for simplicity

Facebook connects phone number to their account even if they don't have WhatsApp.

Even more reason not to give your number out.

Every time one of these threads appears people say to avoid one app or another because of all the fake accounts and bots.

I've been using them for almost 5 years and I've never seen a single bot or fake account.

Me neither! And I’ve never had a message from anyone I haven’t given my username to.

Exactly so I'm unsure how so many feel they are targeted or is it simply down to not vetting those they chat to?

Do you not find emails to be a little too personal? I often revert to messages in bottles myself.

You can disable this in your settings so noone can search for you using your number and you won't show in 'people you may know'

Personally I wouldn't give out my number to anyone I didn't feel comfortable knowing my name.

True. If they get as far as my WhatsApp (which is rare!) seeing my Facebook isn’t really an issue. Not that I’ve been on it for about a year!

I had that happen on Instagram, really annoying.

I stick to here now until I've met someone and want to take things further.
