Brush your teeth with hot or cold water?

If so why?

My friends argument is you’d not wash your dishes in cold so why your teeth? She thinks it’s cleaner.

I’m just grateful people actually brush their teeth haha.

She makes a good point. How have I lived all these years without thinking about this? Surely there's a dentist on here to answer the question?

Cold any salt in your mouth will be activated by hot water and cause damage. Any biker know you only wash a bike with cold water to clear road salt. Same reason.

I googled it and apparently warm is good for sensitive teeth. If you used warm boiled water that should be good and would kill the germs that people worry about from bathroom taps.

Always hot water. I have a sensitive tooth and cold water sets it off thumping. Hot water doesn’t affect it so that’s why

I'm left handed so brush with my left hand, so the free hand to turn on the tap is the right one, and my hot tap is on the right side of the sink

Spit.

If you find you have food bits when you brush your teeth you are going to lose all your teeth eventually. Use toothpicks and drink water after meals

I don't rinse because I have prescription toothpaste and was told not to or its essentially pointless using it but don't you still have to wet the toothbrush?

"Cold water. I was always told hot water from the tap wasn't safe to drink.

This

Why?"

Because hot water is heated in a copper boiler (or they used to be at least). The hot water corrodes and dissolves trace amounts of the copper over time. Copper is toxic to most vertebrates (although not the naked mole rat), and drinking boiler heated water over a prolonged period builds the copper up in your system. This is why you shouldnt drink hot water from the boiler and why you should never fill your kettle with hot water. Also the hot water softens the glue holding the bristles of your brush

You shouldn't rinse your mouth, it just washes the toothpaste away. I just wipe my closed mouth.

Ramsey

Rinse toothbrush quickly with cold water, apply toothpaste & brush away. Wet brush helps toothpaste to froth up.

Spit & rinse mouth with cold water.

Hot water from storage tanks is not healthy as mentioned above. Plus it destroys the strength in the bristles making the brush too soft to scrub your teeth effectively.
