Trekkie technology

A Japanese mobile phone company has announced that it has developed a real time translator that enables two people to speak to each other using their own languages. Star Trek has techonology called a 'universal translator' that does the same thing, and modern medical bays are beginning to resemble those found in Star Trek too.

So it is a case of Star Trek prompting the techonology, or Star Trek adapting technology already available in some instances?

Pretty much all of modern technology can be traced back to William Shatner.

(according to William Shatner)

p.s. your arse is as orange as Siren's tits. You should put a nipple on each cheek.

Yes I had noticed that.

If I didn't know any better I would think we all got together and took pictures of each other...

there was a documentary on this and the creators of star trek all said they looked at things in development and used these apart from the teleports which came around to save time. cut from one scene to another with ease

I am not sure if this is completely true, but I was told that James Bond is responsible for the Radio Pager (anyone old enough to remember them is clearly too old to be swinging aren't they.. )

In the opening of From Russia with love, he is in a punt on a river with Sylvia Trench. Something starts bleeping in his jacket pocket and he pulls out a 'gadget' and says 'Sorry, got to phone the office'. And someone saw it and thought 'that's a good idea..' and the radio pager was born..

Of course, you may know different....

I don't know if it's an urban myth or if it actually happened but I once heard that IBM had successfully transported an orange 6 feet. Apparently it took six weeks for it to reassemble at the other end and was quite unedible.
