"HOW MUCH!!!!! So the toddler want a cat, me being me “ no bother youth I’ll pick you one up. Yeah she’s not having a cat. Gone are the days where you get one for £20 " Try somewhere like Battersea Dogs and Cats home. Though still not cheap it will be better than getting a pedigree breed.

"HOW MUCH!!!!! So the toddler want a cat, me being me “ no bother youth I’ll pick you one up. Yeah she’s not having a cat. Gone are the days where you get one for £20 " Worst thing to get a toddler. Pets usually end up traumatized.

"HOW MUCH!!!!! So the toddler want a cat, me being me “ no bother youth I’ll pick you one up. Yeah she’s not having a cat. Gone are the days where you get one for £20 " Have you tried rescue shelters? If there aren’t any now, there soon will be. Pretty much into kitten season now. Don’t play into the hands of breeders, the price of kittens and puppies shot up during the first Covid lockdown when people found themselves at home with more time on their hands. Suddenly cats & dogs were in demand, and people would pay silly prices. Look out for small local rescue centres, as their prices will be considerably cheaper than likes of S/R SP CA.

"There is a very good reason for this. Many get into the wrong hands. The higher priced the chances they are going to a better home and not ending up as bait. Last time I saw a pet shop with kittens (about a decade ago) they where £80 each. We would go rescue anyway but that has a similar fee attached now from what I understand.

"Rescue centres are good but can be hit and miss ( the ones around me didn’t even come back to me and I wanted 2, which I found bizarre )" Many of them are run by non-crazy cat ladies. Often on their own. Covid didn't help with them being able to move on their rescue cats. They may just be swamped, poor and knackered

"I agree with those who said get one from a rescue, they are usually flead and vaccinated/neutered also for you . We have a rescue girl and a boy I paid £30 for 4.5 years ago when he was tiny, best money I ever spent ." All the cats have had medicals before being put up for adoption I have a page on Book face that directs people to their local rescue or legitimate over seas rescues all over Scotland. A local rescue near me helped out a woman who had to rehome her cat that she had got from a rescue in France. She did say he cat had feline IBS, but failed to disclose the cat also had FeLV, which can cause issues. The cat was take to their vets for a medical check up including a full bloods. This is when FeLV was found. He has since been rehomed as an only cat, in a home where the people are fully aware of his needs. Hopefully he will live a long and happy life.

"Another sad thing is kittens are bought for kitten farming, because they can sell for a lot of money..." They are on the decrease…. The practise is now illegal. Can only hope that one day they will all be closed down. Most dog fighters seek cats/ kittens and other dogs for free off sites like Gumtree

"Plus get insurance." Absolutely, I agree- X-rays/scans can easily run up thousands. Just make sure you check the small print to see what you are actually covered for. Many won’t pay out for dental treatment so be sure to check and make sure your vet does a dental check every year when getting their health check and boosters done. Xx

"Yes rescued cats already come neutered/spayed and all their vaccinations done, full health checks so you may think it’s a lot but actually you are getting a healthy pet and of course the charity’s have to find the money somewhere to pay the vets bills. Vets bills seem high to us but we only pay a fraction of the price for vaccines and treatments etc provided. Xx " It’s absolutely fair enough, isn’t it The bait comments are so saddening. It sickens me to think of what some human beings are capable of.

"HOW MUCH!!!!! So the toddler want a cat, me being me “ no bother youth I’ll pick you one up. Yeah she’s not having a cat. Mines a rescue and she's t'rrific. Winston

"The practise is now illegal. Can only hope that one day they will all be closed down. Sadly evil people don't always obey the law " No, but they more they’re caught the more are ‘off the streets’ so to speak Insurance - so glad I have insurance for my girls (even though one is an indoor cat) the other girl got bumped by a car last year (am so sure it was because of the neighbours dog) but she got away with a partial dislocated jaw, but the whole experience came just over a grand. Plus she has the advanced plus policy so the premium doesn’t go up when renewed and she’s insured at 3k and it’s stays at 3k when renewed. None of my previous pets had been insured.

"Kittens are not toys for toddlers." Obviously our last cat died over a year ago, the little one misses her and we've decided it's time now to get another, especially with the little one asking..... Under no circumstances are we leaving the kitten in the incapable hands of a toddler. We would be caring for the kitten/cat.

"Kittens are not toys for toddlers. Exactly. They're also a 15-20 year commitment." Behave, most cats do not live to 20yrs old, my oldest cat lived til the day after his 17th birthday previous cats liked to 11 & 16.5. No one is saying that kittens are toys for toddlers nor puppies. But it’s good for a kid to grow up with an animal, it teaches them compassion towards animals, also teaches them how to respect an animal, obviously they both have to be closely watched.
