I was part of a team moving a selection of machines across town to a new facility. They were loaded onto a truck I was to drive for them. I took the word of the loader that all was good instead of visually verifying it for myself. The first corner I encountered…..yes you guessed it……it ended up on the floor in a pile of useless scrap.

I was going to say my ex Mrs, but... I will qualify that I, myself, am my own most expensive mistake

My inability to rail in her spending and my good nature in trying to balance the books, my desire to please and my love for her are the real reasons I started the relationship solvent and ended it very nearly bankrupt

I think nowadays the driver is responsible for the security of any load for this reason.

My most expensive mistake was buying a nice expensive house I couldn't afford in the days of self assessment mortgages. I can't believe how stupid I was.

Didn’t cost me financially, but when I moved an hour away from my family to be with my now hubby, my brother took it hard. "Buying a new build

Was it 'off plan'?"

No. It was built and came with carpets, turf and all integrated appliances. It looked and seemed absolutely perfect until covid hit. It fell to pieces and they wouldn’t come out to do repairs.

Now we’re out of the defects period so they won’t fix it now. I kicked up a fuss and they did some of the repairs but wouldn’t replace the flooring that had been damaged due to burst pipes

12 years ago ish, someone I knew was emmigrating to Australia and was desperate to sell his house

He'd reduced it to £80k for a quick sale and still couldn't move it

Knowing it was an absolute bargain (it was on sale at around £40k under market value) I thought about buying it and renting it out, but because of another family members issues when they rented out a property, I bottled it

The house now will be worth at least £400k
