Don’t use them. They ones that work aren’t safe as the increase heart rate too high. That’s all they do. Better off increasing daily exercise for the same effect

"Does anyone use them, are they any good, and are they safe? Keep getting emails and stuff about them and I see they’re available on the big A. "

No, they are not safe and there have been a number of fatalities reported in mainstream media. Your GP can recommend over-the-counter slimming aids that are scientifically proven and deemed safe to assist weight loss.

"The only ones that actually work are illegal. They are illegal for a reason."

This, they can cause hyperthermia and death very quickly if you get a particular type.

Moat of the ones sold are just useless herbal concoctions that empty your wallet and dont help.

It depends… there are ones that can be prescribed for a few months and they do help as a starting point ( and you also have to watch what you eat as they do have certain side effects) …

After the initial weight loss that kinda gets you to a place of eating better

Between the pills and the slimming world book of what you can eat and not it.. I have lost a bit and feel a lot better

"Does anyone use them, are they any good, and are they safe? Keep getting emails and stuff about them and I see they’re available on the big A. "

I was very obese for years & looked at everything on the market- sadly these are all crap- preying on the need for people to change their lives.

As far as medical help, look into Saxenda. It's expensive & you can't get it on the NHS but if you answer the questions honestly & make sure to read all contra indications, it can help.

Then there's bariatric surgery- I was fortunate enough to qualify on the NHS about 16 years ago but it's difficult to get it now. I have cosmetic surgeries in Poland to get rid of my excess skin but they also have weightloss surgery for around 4k.

Otherwise, it's boring old calorie deficit...work out your bmr to establish how many cals you need to live, then eat 10-15% less.

It's hard living with excess weight- most of it comes down to people's mental/emotional state. Unless that's in a good place, losing weight is fucking tough.

Good luck with whatever you decide, op x

Without dealing with that, your statement is exactly the same as the heartless majority of GPs who underestimate the need to deal with this first.

For anyone tempted

It’s very easy to take too much DNP and the result is your body literally cooking itself from the inside our. In the event of taking too much, there is almost nothing a hospital can do except make your death less painful

As I said. No such thing as a biological free lunch

Eat less. Move more.

If there's solid independent evidence, published in credible and reputable scientific journals, then they will be worth considering. Sadly, there are likely none of the hyped and aggressively marketed pill concoctions that are of this stature. People like pills because of their simplicity, perceived ease of achieving magical dreams whilst doing little, often whilst wanting to defy tknown laws of the universe.

I'd look for professional support, if I wanted weight loss and especially if I wanted it to be sustained. It's too easy to be pulled into a yoyo weight loss and gain lifestyle. This is not healthy and is often soul destroying for millions.

Some concoctions have herbal ingredients, which individually may have some flimsy evidence behind them. As we know, plant derived material is not a guide to safety, in the slightest. Alternatively, shady chemicals of dubious safety/sources, likely have little substance to their evidence and probably poorer efficacy, whatever anecdotes may be used to try to manipulate us.

Luckily, more progressive attitudes understand that very often, overeating isn't the problem, it's a symptom. Telling someone to eat less & move more, whilst logically true, is as helpful as telling someone with depression to pull themselves together & cheer up

I would disagree. There’s a huge lack of understanding in how weight loss works and before you start the process you have to make it very clear how it works. That means being very blunt in your beginner responses

Once it’s realised and accepted, then you can move onto methods to make it happen

But you’d be very surprised how many people think weight gain/loss is some magical process that science doesn’t understand. They think they can eat endless “x” but even a small portion of “y” will make them gain 10lbs

Before you start the process you have to make sure it’s methods are understood otherwise they won’t be able to lose the weight, keep it off and do it with independently

Not quite, it’s literally impossible to breath it out as carbon dioxide

It messes with the way food is used to create energy. Instead it creates heat. So you literally burn off food and fat as extra heat instead of storing it or using it effectively for energy

Users of DNP will sweat like crazy and feel like death because of it

Yeah, but as with any chemical reaction, there are always chemical products left over from the exothermic reaction. Sure it gets burned and output as heat, but those waste chemicals still need to be removed from the body, the carbon is breathed out as carbon dioxide and the other elements through urine.

Saxenda was originally a diabetic medication. It does suppress your appetite by mimicking a hunger suppressing hormone, which helps prevent overeating. It's introduced at a low dose & increased over a few weeks.

I was on Orlistat for weight loss through my GP.

What they didn’t tell you was that, despite losing fat, it strips your stomaching & gut lining. I was extremely ill for a month after taking them.

My family GP even went out & said “I wouldn’t prescribe these to my worst enemy”. Suffice to say, he was extremely worried as well.

"Thanks for all comments and advice. Definitely a no no then. I’m not particularly overweight but wondered about them "

Glad you have decided to stay clear of them.

I'm off to Cap D'Agde in 10 weeks and need to get around a stone off to look good naked on the beach and around the village.

This works for me.

Empty kitchen of crisps, biscuits and and snacks, if the're not in the cupboard you can't get to them.

No booze, none at all.

No bread or potatoes, replace the potatoes with another vegetable.

Lean meat and fish. Last night was turkey steak, cabbage, carrots and cauliflower.

Salad taken to work for lunch, no dressing or at least a few sprays of the low calorie balsamic vinegar stuff.

Breakfast cornflakes and milk.

Lots of assorted fruit in the fruit bowl at home.

When you feel really shit and think you are starving, you're not, you're bored. Imagine some poor starving man standing in front of you, would he refuse an apple or pear, no he wouldn't.

Buy online if possible saves having all those hobnobs in the supermarket aisle shouting eat me, eat me.

When the weight is off, it will be, guarantee it, then its nice to feel a bit smug and I'll get lots of sex on holiday too.

Win win I'd say.

Give it a whirl.
