From my mum when I was 21. A oil painting of my home city. She's been gone 21 years herself. It was expensive, and she couldn't really afford it x

The best presents in my opinion, are ones that someone has thought about. Something that has meaning and has been chosen with care.

The best present I've e er received was a ticket to see a band I had given up hope of ever being able to see.

It was very unexpected and I cried

My hen party. We were only engaged 3 1/2 months. It was always going to be a small wedding with minimum fuss. A few weeks before the wedding we went into town and my friends were waiting there. My husband had organised it all in secret and I spent the day with them treating me and practicing make up on me like a doll, as they'd decided to do my wedding make up. He did something similar a few years later by organising a spa weekend for my birthday. The same friends collected me and gave me a night off from being a mum. It was very much appreciated

I got myself some turntables for my 20th birthday. Had some great times learning to dj back then and share my love of music with friends and like minded people.

Still love using my decks today, albeit upgraded since then!

I actually love buying gifts, the buzz you get when you buy something you know someone will love (regardless of cost) is fantastic.

Absolutely 100%

I’m not materialistic and I’d rather give than receive.

And I’d say I’m not bad at giving a nice surprise gift to someone, it’s all about learning and planning what to get or do for them for me.

That’s what I prefer anyway.

Scunthorpe

I generally prefer experiences to remember over physical gifts.

Cal buys great gifts. The best are probably my Boudoir Photoshoot and a stay in a castle.

I enjoy buying presents for others, and love finding the "prefect gift", which is not as often as I would like.

Oddly, it was one from a bunch of workmates in my first full time job.

I'd only been there a short time, and loved it, but it was a very close knit group and I still felt a bit of an outsider.

Then when my birthday arrived, they presented me with a box of presents (probably over £200s worth), and all were things I actually wanted or related to things I enjoy.

It wasn't the presents that meant so much, but the feeling of being noticed and accepted.

I stayed in that job for 15 years.

The best gift I’ve ever received, was when I heard the fireman say “she’s breathing” after resuscitating my daughter on our front lawn. Nothing beats that, although finding out I was pregnant on her little sister, after years of trying is definitely on par with it xx

So I guess, I’d have to say, my girls xx

Present wise, would be a key ring my lil one bought me when she was six, as it said “best mummy in the world”. She saw it in the local shop and bought it with her pocket money, as a surprise for me xx

"The best gift I’ve ever received, was when I heard the fireman say “she’s breathing” after resuscitating my daughter on our front lawn. Nothing beats that, although finding out I was pregnant on her little sister, after years of trying is definitely on par with it xx

So I guess, I’d have to say, my girls xx

Present wise, would be a key ring my lil one bought me when she was six, as it said “best mummy in the world”. She saw it in the local shop and bought it with her pocket money, as a surprise for me xx "

That's interesting that you differentiate between a present and a gift. How terrifying to have your child need resuscitating! I'm glad she is ok.

"Mine wasn't a present as such but my daughter, who was born very ill, got home from hospital on Christmas Eve.

I would say that's the best Xmas present ever! X"

Oh it was. X

Worthing

In addition to my earlier post, a Sinclair ZX81 present set me on my career path.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned more often! There is a great love for them, it would appear.

My first car, Christmas morning 1975, the keys to a 1966 Austin 1100 were hanging on the tree.

I can still remember the registration number!

What a happy teenager I was!

Best present I ever got was my partner’s all clear from cancer and she got to ring the bell at the freeman in newcastle. I still cry now every time I think back on it

"My guitar...still can't play a note but it was the last thing my dad got me before he suddenly dropped 2 months after..3 days before my 'O' levels (remember them lol )

It takes pride of place on my living room wall, occasionally gets a well out of tune strum..."

.

you should get a guitar tuner , cost about £10 , and tune your guitar ( it may need new strings as well, you will pick them up for a few quid ) and pick one song to learn , it's very very easy to learn , believe me , once you have it , you have it for life , it's like riding a bike , the song I'd recommend for you is ' Knocking on Heaven's Door " ..no matter how long it takes you , you will have it for life

My first racer, it was a peugeot 10 speed. It looked cool even with mudguards on, well to me it did. It started my liking for cycling.

Shame some blind twat took me half way round about, as he didn't see my. I was about 8 at time time.

A house …. My partner passed 6yrs ago and the insurance bought a house in a gorgeous Welsh village … but it will never substitute him not being here
