We love watching films that are quirky and not mainstream.

Tell me about one of your favourite, not very well known, films - and why we should go to the effort of tracking it down and watching it.

I'll start with Keeping Mum. From 2005. Starring Maggie Smith, Rowan Atkinson and Patrick Swayze, among others. Funny, very English, and a rather unexpected plot. Plus there's boobs on show at points - and not Maggie Smith's

I’ve heard Keeping mum is good.

I usually watch films people know but I did watch Who do you think I am on Netflix which is a gorgeous french film about a woman that pursues a man on social media but it gets a bit obsessive and weird.

Sticking with foreign film, Aquarius with Sonia Braga. An absolutely gorgeous Brazilian film that covers so many great themes.

The War of the Roses. One of my favourite films, full of one-liners and brilliantly dark humour. It's not particularly obscure, just old and not much watched any more.

I love the spiteful pettiness of it, the lengths they are both prepared to go to.

Either that or Marvellous with Toby Jones which in truth in a write up sounds kak, but it is humorous, warm and lovely

Empire State a UK Gangster film from the 80’s. Think ‘The Long Good Friday’ younger forgotten brother.

It’s the final film for Ray McAnally also stars Martin Landau (Space 1999) and Lorcan Cranitch (Cracker) and Jamie Forman.

Also highlights London gay scene at the time.

Dark Star (1978) by John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannen.

It started out as a student project but evolved into a feature length film. The entire budget was somewhere around. $6,000 - yes, that's thousand. It's a great dark comedy.

The Drop

James Gandolfini's last film before he died.

"bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) tends bar in his cousin's pub and looks the other way when local mobsters use the joint as a temporary bank. His simple life takes a complicated turn when he finds a battered puppy. He asks his neighbor, Nadia (Noomi Rapace), for help nursing it back to health, and a mutual attraction sparks between them. However, a robbery at the bar and the return of Nadia's abusive ex force Bob to face the truth about those he thinks he knows best -- including himself".

Seven Pounds (2008) Will Smith, bit of a tearjerker

The God's must be crazy. It's about a bushman in southern Africa who has to go to the end of the earth to throw an item off that was a gift from the gods. The bushman encounters civilisation for the first time. The gift is a bottle that was thrown out of an aeroplane. The tribe found so many uses for it that everyone wanted it which caused trouble.

It's brilliant and very funny and very few people seem to have heard of it xx

"Goodbye Lenin", if you don't mind a subtitled film - excellent German comedy about the fall of the Berlin Wall.

"Boys Don't Cry", can't really be described as obscure as Hilary Swank won an Oscar, but it feels off the mainstream and I think may be a bit of a forgotten gem. It's not an easy watch but really powerful.

"Fever Pitch", again I'm not sure how obscure this is, and based on Nick Hornsby's book, but it centres around Arsenal winning the league in 1989 so is a little niche. But the film builds a really sweet rom-com around it. And I love a rom-com, it has to be said!!

I love the spiteful pettiness of it, the lengths they are both prepared to go to."

“A Good Year” with Russell Crowe, Marion Cotillard and Albert Finney is a nice little feel good movie.

Cinema Paradiso is one of my mum's favourite films. That and Like Water For Chocolate. I've never had a problem with subtitles. I was brought up on old, black and white, foreign films, plus the musicals. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Carousel were childhood favourites. Films are a big part of my childhood and I've been told when my sister was 7 she told her class her favourite films were The Little Mermaid and The Terminator

Looking for a film to watch tonight and noticed on BBC iPlayer that ‘Election’ is available to watch for 16 days.

Stars Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon. A high school teacher meets his match with an over-achieving student politician.

7.3 on IMDB and although I’ve only watched it once I did enjoy it.

So certainly on the cards for me tonight

Jean Reno & Mercedes Ruehl

Roseanna is dying of a heart condition, and all she wants is to be buried next to her daughter, in a cemetery that is getting full fast. The cemetery can't expand because Capestro, the man who owns the land next to the cemetery, won't sell. While Marcello is doing good deeds to make sure no one dies, Roseanna thinks of Marcello's future.

"We love watching films that are quirky and not mainstream.

Plus there's boobs on show at points - and not Maggie Smith's "

Still has to be Gregory's Girl.

You're absolutely right, it's incredibly contradictory. It's compulsive, heart breakingly sad because it's a true story. You want to watch it, but you don't.
