so the question is .... will you need a part time job or more hours if the cost of living rise's to the levels they say they may ? we know alot of people are already on the breadline ..

we have seen this week a upturn in applicants for part time care jobs that in the past struggled to fill due to covid in the last 2 years .... we've also notice staff asking for more hours too ... this is going to affect alot

the one sector its really hitting at the mo is the home care workers as petrol is now £1.51 here in somerset soon care at home will be more expensive than ever on top of all the heating bills and gas /elec ... going to be some very hard times coming

We already work long hours 7 days a week so it's impossible for us to do more. We may have to make cuts somewhere if diesel keeps rising at the rate it has been.

Yep, My budgeting is already down to the bone.

I took early retirement at 55 from the NHS and the pension from that pays my mortgage.

At 61, my intention was to work part time in a job free from the stress that almost killed me in the NHS, until taking state pension at 67 and then claiming benefits but with no savings, it's a fine line of overtime as I'm taxed at 20% because my pension is regarded as my primary income.

I am fortunate to have a wealthy sib who will always help in an emergency but that's not something that sits comfortably with me.

I am 'comfortable' but still changing habits to save a few quid where I can

It only takes a change professionally and things could change very quickly

Financial complacency isn't something I'm comfortable with

yes lots doing this its not good because with increase in rates of pay will only increase cost and other peoples abillities to pay

Very fortunate to not have to worry, other than having less to prepare for retirement.

But then we reduced things like food bills etc long time ago by dumping supermarkets and moved all to cheaper and local firms, where we support small firms rather than large chains

Do feel very sorry for those feeling the pinch at these times though

I’ve just had an email from my energy supplier about my new tariff and the only one I can “afford” is their variable rate. Due to being off sick for the last four months and changing job roles soon I am going to be on my basic wage with no enhancements which means my credit cards have been used more than they should over the last few months. Due to the work I do I can’t really take on another job although I can potentially do overtime until I start my new posting which is only two months away and I’m going back on reduced hours.

My options at the moment are limited

I feel guilty for feeling this way though when I still have a roof over my head and my family is safe…

I work in Social Services finance - I really feel for my service users & worry about how they will manage

Looks like my raise has been swallowed up so effectively no raise at all.

If things got tough and I didn’t have the bank of Dad behind me I wouldn’t hesitate in taking another job. I would do what I need to do to get by.

I appreciate that it is not ideal. But what else is there to do? Suck it up? Do without? Sacrifice more family time?

Won’t most of us simply take the path of least resistance? There’s no easy answer in times of economic turmoil. Crash, Brexit, Pandemic, Ukraine war & commodities crunch and high inflation. What next!?

I've got far too many needless luxuries I indulge in (alcohol, nicotine, takeaways, etc.) I could cut down on/eradicate before I could be arsed to work more.

It's a mildly worrying situation thought - inflation is compound, so in a few years things could be pretty bad.

I had just taken on more hours at work as only worked 3 days so basically I won’t see any benefit from that. So much for being a little more comfortable

We could cut back more on our treats and leisure activities but then you end up having very little to look forward to in life.
