...if I block a certain demographic from messaging, does that mean I'll still be able to message with those I'm already messaging?

If you've replied to their first message or you've messaged them first - you can still continue chatting.

If you initiate first contact whilst your filters are up then you can chat. Any convo’s before can still continue
