Fast Food in Cinemas

Why do some people think it's ok to bring fast food (whether it's from McDonald's, KFC or Pizza Hut) to a cinema despite the fact that it's against the cinema policy that doesn't allow hot food from outside establishments?

I think it's completely ignorant as I'm sure many people don't want to go into a cinema screen that's stinking of burgers, fries, pizza or chicken.

Lots of people are disrespectful assholes. They're the same types who play music or listen to videos out loud on public transport.

I work in a restaurant that has a bar, we get loads of folk who come in for a drink, send their kids to maccies and expect us to be cool with them sitting in our restaurant eating another food outlets produce.

It’s not against the rule to bring in fast food

It’s against the rules to bring in food from other places

You can by a hot dog and chips and take them in

The reason it’s against the rules as so they can make a 99p hot dog £3.99 and force people to pay stupid prices

To be fair it smells just as bad as all the hot dogs,nachos/toppings and other random bits the cinema sells too.

All hot food could be banned and go back to just selling sweets, crisp, drinks and popcorn.

Why would anyone want to take actual food or a meal in a cinema is beyond me. I would understand if it was a 6 hour film without a break. Having said that I do like a few maltesers but then that can't be offensive to anyone. The old ways of the ice-cream sellers going around and all the anticipation for the interval to have a lovely little tub of ice-cream was far nicer in my opinion

Because they get next to fuck all from ticket sales for the first few weeks. Think a 70%/30% split in favor of studios and distributors.

After so many weeks that will reverse and cinemas get 70% of the ticket sales and studios get 30% but by then nobody is really seeing that movie anyway.

One of the girls from work went on her own last week. She was the only person watching the film.

Plus you've got lost revenue from people distributing illegally.

Don't get me wrong, I think the prices take the piss but they are there to make a profit.

Also, with people bringing in their own food, I'm willing to bet they have huge food waste costs which will drive the prices even higher.

Would you think it was acceptable to go to an off license and purchase alcohol to then take that alcohol to the pub and sit at a table and consume it and leave the empties for them to clear away.

I don’t have a problem with eating in cinemas as long as you are considerate to the people around you but buying it elsewhere and taking it in is just taking the piss.

I've taken McDonald's into a cinema, and always take my own jelly sweets and big bags of chocolate. If I'm going with just my sister I'll buy the cinema's confectionery and she buys the tickets.

They don't do Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream any more so I stick with sweets.

Last movie I went to see at the cinema was Dredd (so 10 years ago now) and I remember it costing me £40 for 2 Adults, 2 drinks (seems the c word is banned on fab) and 2 hot dogs.

£40 freaking quid 10 years ago.

As a regular movie watcher and cinema goer at that point, I just gave up on the cinema there and then. Got myself what I need to enjoy the experience at home and never looked back.

So if people are taking their own food now, I honestly don't blame them given the extortionate prices from a decade a go (which I can only assume have since gone up).

So you would consider it ok to go too a pub to listen to a live music gig and take your own drink because you are not going there for the primary reason of having a drink, you are going for the music and they just happen to sell drink also.

In the same way you are going to the cinema to watch the film, they just happen to sell food also.

"Because they get next to fuck all from ticket sales for the first few weeks. Think a 70%/30% split in favor of studios and distributors.

After so many weeks that will reverse and cinemas get 70% of the ticket sales and studios get 30% but by then nobody is really seeing that movie anyway."

"Cinemas sell hot dogs and nachos so I can't see the problem with someone bringing in hot food from elsewhere.

But...... Its not the same

In a pub I'm paying to enter their establishment to consume beverages, so I wouldn't purchase beverages from else where

In a cinema I am paying to enter their establishment to watch a film. So if I want to take a snuggle, pillow and sweets I don't see a problem. If I took a TV and my marvel collection then I could see myself upsetting a few people

So you would consider it ok to go too a pub to listen to a live music gig and take your own drink because you are not going there for the primary reason of having a drink, you are going for the music and they just happen to sell drink also.

In the same way you are going to the cinema to watch the film, they just happen to sell food also.

No because the establishment is a pub that has organised to play a band I want to see, I wouldn't take drinks or a radio to play the songs I like

I'm not going to the cinema to eat their food I am paying to watch a film and I like to suck on sweets"

But your not going to the pub to drink their drink your going to hear the band, and you like a swig of White Lightening

In Thailand, if you pay extra you get a buffet before you go in, with unlimited soft drinks. At your reclining seat / sofa with blanket two drinks (inc alcoholic) and popcorn. All for around a tenner.

Only slight issue, you have to stand up when they play the anthem and show a picture of the king.

"I knew C was a keeper when she ate the popcorn exactly like I do - we grab a handful and try to cram as many in our mouths as possible.

Then when the lights go on at the end you find you’ve got loads down your top

K"

You like eating the bits that have fallen down my top

Cineworld I use allows you to take your own snacks in, not sure about hot meals from elsewhere as it's not something I would do as we would go for tea either before or after the film.

"Why do some people think it's ok to bring fast food (whether it's from McDonald's, KFC or Pizza Hut) to a cinema despite the fact that it's against the cinema policy that doesn't allow hot food from outside establishments?

I think it's completely ignorant as I'm sure many people don't want to go into a cinema screen that's stinking of burgers, fries, pizza or chicken."

Vue, Cineworld or Light?!

It puts me off going to the cinema. Why can’t people just sit and watch a film for a couple of hours without eating anything? Just a bottle of water.

Because that’s boring. I like to eat and they allow it
