They have become too exaggerated these days though and it is creating issues for some breeds. " But of both. Initially it was selective breeding, then it was selective cross breeding of specific lines once very different - every modern breed origin is essentially a cross until you go back far enough. Beagle origins for example are from the breeding of the now "extinct" Talbot hound and greyhound. The beagle would then be used to eventually be bred with another larger scent hound breed to produce foxhounds and harriers. | |||

"I mean they didn't cross breed a wolf with anything. " Wolves have been crossbred with domestic dogs. The breed Utonagan is a cross between a GSD, a Husky, Alaskan Malamute, & Grey Wolf. They were bred to look like a wolf with the character of a dog. They come under the Canis Lupus rather than the Canis Familiaris | |||
