Since it's an International Women's Day, I thought it would feel good to share quotes or stories of women who inspired us at some point in our lives.

"So many people are shut up tight inside themselves like boxes, yet they would open up, unfolding quite wonderfully, if only you were interested in them." (Initiation - Sylvia Plath)

“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my item. And I am not free as long as one person colour remains chained. Nor is any one of you.”

From Audre Lorde’s ‘uses of anger: women responding to racism’ essay. Read it last week for the first time. .

Her and Angela Davis are real inspirations of mine.

Angela Davis is a true revolutionary.

"Feminism involves so much more than gender equality and it involves so much more than gender. Feminism must involve consciousness of capitalism (I mean the feminism that I relate to, and there are multiple feminisms, right). So it has to involve a consciousness of capitalism and racism and colonialism and post-colonialities, and ability and more genders than we can even imagine and more sexualities than we ever thought we could name."

I was going to say something about her coming up with this after dating me but I might get lynched if I said such things on this day.

“You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe/You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe”

Or

“Oooooh, Boobs, Boobs, Boobs, Boobs, lotta boobs”

Or

“You cannot buy the Revolution. You cannot make the Revolution. You can only be the Revolution. It is in your spirit, or it is nowhere.”

One of these is from the magnificent Ursula K. Le Guin. The others are Nicki Minaj. I live by all three.
