I try to be an upstander when anyone is being bullied or attacked for any reason. I'm not saying I achieve it, but I try.

Bullying usually. I can’t abide it. I was like that at school, always stuck up for the bullied ones.

Otherwise probably not so much unless it’s to do with me and mine. I don’t get involved in other people’s business.

It's good to try to stand up to your beliefs and views

I agree and also where I feel the most conflict, especially when my personal self could potentially be put in danger by my physical intervention. I think this is why I'm more gobby from a distance in those situations when someone clearly needs help

My values, yes I’m a swinger but I’m an old fashioned romantic at heart.

And morals and respect. Don’t tend to mix them entirely with the swinging side of me but I’ll keep those forever.

All of them. If they're important enough to keep them in your life, they're important enough to give them your all, no?

Do you teach those around you or just personally uphold your values

Local politics, hate seeing local councillors trying to push their own agenda and ignoring the people who put them in that position so I'll challenge them every time.

Yes but I don't have the emotional energy to help all of the things I'd love to uphold, yes I can educate people but it would be at the detriment to my life, so I consciously choose to limit mine

I hate it when people moan about something but won’t lift a finger to do anything about it themselves, instead expecting others to run around for them when they’re perfectly capable. If I’m going to criticise, then I’m also happy to step up and do. I’m heavily involved with my trade’s union because of that.

I’m also, like others above, intolerant of bullying.

Got myself into trouble more than once knocking out abusive boyfriends, once this twat was slapping this poor lass repeatedly round the face in middle of shops nobody did anything but tut! Went up punched him and took her away from it.

I hate people who do that and if means I need to step in I will.

I’m actually bit crap since my kids have grown up and something that bothers me.

When they were younger I made a point of getting them involved in all kinds of things from environment , street work , missions abroad but as they got older It eased off and they took over.

Ive done a easier things like chair of governors and charities trustee and was a government advisor for techEd now very little but still do some mentoring and the odd guest lecture at a local uni

At work. The way some of the younger staff get talked to by management is horrendous and I’ll always stick up for them. It probably means I’ll never get a promotion though

I did consider it briefly and a few friends have tried to push me to do it too. I think you can fight your (and others) corner better from the outside looking in. I have a theory that once you're on the inside, so to speak, you have to tow the party line to an extent, which helps explain why some 'promises' aren't carried through. Mouthy gits like me can call any councillor from any party out on their broken promises without being told to pipe down.

I know I could stand as an independent but I'm happy enough on the outside looking in.

I was a Union rep for a few years so I hated how Workers can be exploited, bullied or just not know their basic employment rights. Unpaid overtime was drilled into one workplace during busy periods, but those extra hours weren’t given back.

Don’t know how many disciplinary interviews I sat in, in which some Manager or HR person would try and get a person sacked for a trivial matter, as well.

I firmly believe the majority of working people just want to do the best job they can. Sometimes they need a bit of help or encouragement but shouldn’t be thrown away especially if they’ve given a significant portion of their lives to an employer, who no longer values them.
