The best site, from an autodidactic perspective is a site that very few people use: Google Scholar; obviously within the Google stable but almost completely unknown.

I use it almost every day: a vast amount of first class information on tap.

The location that I access it from has paid fees for multiple licences, but other locations have more limited access, but fine for most users.

I speak to students quite frequently, and many students especially post graduate students from abroad have never heard of it; rather surprisingly.

most fundamental aspects

Ecosia. Less a site more a search engine.

The money they make from clicks goes to plant trees instead of boosting billionaire tech folks fortunes.

They also don’t track and sell your usage.
