If you listen to the radio, what's your favourite station and why?

I only listen now in the car if it’s a music station and that’ll tend to be something like Heart 80s or Absolute 80s, maybe flipping over to the 90s stations if I don’t like the current song that’s playing!

Most of my other radio listening tends to be football commentaries, I’ll often chill out and listen to the commentary rather than watch as I think I prefer it.

On a rare occasion I might listen to Radio 2, which I now makes me sound old, but kids, don’t laugh, you wait. You’ll get there too! Radio 2 now is essentially what Radio 1 was when I was growing up! Same DJ’s, same music!

Newry Down

When I am out in remote areas, walking, I almost invariably listen to Ireland's RTE Radio One, on FM if the signal is good, but on Long Wave 252 if it is poor.

I have rare portable radio for this purpose.

In urban areas, I listen to BBC Radio 4 on DAB, or LBC and Times Radio.

Regrettably, last year RTE switched off all of its DAB signals permanently, but guaranteed broadcasting on LW 252, which used to be the frequency of Tara Radio.

That powerful aerial is located in the centre of Ireland and is listened to by an increasingly elderly Irish diaspora in GB, especially in the Midlands and in London.

LBC in the car but Caroline on 648 KHz all day and night at home.

However, I am going off Caroline as they no longer tell the listener what every track was immediately after playing it. That was how I found out so much about

the classic rock scene.

Now they are too preoccupied with playing at being fade and mix DJs and not even waiting for a great track to finish.Too much ego tripping now. All they need is the music.

Also, they can stuff their current "welcome back my friends.." jingle. Bring back the gentler "Flying to the sun with Caroline..".

Kerrang! Radio, with Sophie K for breakfast, followed by Jon Mahonn on the run up to dinner. Love that Jon talks a lot about mental health awareness and will even talk about his own state of mind. Also love when the djs admit that they didn’t like a song they just played, as I find most other djs so fake in they just seem to love everything rather than have a real opinion of things.

I have the radio on for 8 hours a day 5 days a week tuned into Radio 2 all the way!

Most of the other stations have certain genres that they stick to and are very repetitive in their song choices. Radio 2 is the most eclectic mix out there imo, ye they have a few new ones that get played a lot for a couple of weeks but the rest is a mega mix of 60's up to modern stuff.

Mostly Radio 4 Extra, which is essentially Radio 4, but without the news, lots of plays etc, when I'm not listening to that , it's Radio 4 itself.

If Ginge is in the car, she puts on hits of the 70s or 80s type channel. And she puts it on regardless of whether I was listening to something else or not.

I can literally say ' I was listening to that that' and she will say 'well I'm not' and then starts singing -badly- along to some of the naffest tunes you will ever hear.

I do love her, but sometimes she is fucking annoying

Mostly Radio 4 Extra, which is essentially Radio 4, but without the news, lots of plays etc, when I'm not listening to that , it's Radio 4 itself.

If Ginge is in the car, she puts on hits of the 70s or 80s type channel. And she puts it on regardless of whether I was listening to something else or not.

I can literally say ' I was listening to that that' and she will say 'well I'm not' and then starts singing -badly- along to some of the naffest tunes you will ever hear.

I do love her, but sometimes she is fucking annoying

I'm a Radio 2 guy these days - it was Radio 1 all my life until I couldn't stand the "music" anymore. God I sound like a cliché old man, but the music really is shite these days- or more to the point, the commercial music they choose to play is shite. There is still some good music being made, but unless it's got an "Urban" element to it, it's not getting on daytime yoof radio.

I do still listed to Radio 1 for the dance shows though.

6music for music, especially the weekend line up which is exceptional.

radio4 for comedy and news, and radio5 for sport.

We really are spoilt for choice in blighty with the BBC's radio output aren't we?

It's very fashionable to bash the Beeb ( ooh err matron) which I find incredibly depressing. We are very, very lucky to have them.

I love R4 - I deliberately stay tuned when it’s topics I know nothing about or have no interest in. Often learn something.

Besides that, 6music and R5live for sport. Also Radio Cymru to get Welsh Language stuff.

Also love the Radio Garden app - I choose a far flung place on the globe and stick with it a while. Quite addictive and strange (sometimes) .

"If you listen to the radio, what's your favourite station and why?"

I like Greatest Hits Radio, it's mainly on DAB or Internet radio things although they do broadcast on FM in some places.

They have some big names presenting and play 70s,80s, and 90's all day every day... loads of good music.

Newry Down

One radio station that has attracted my attention recently, on DAB, is LBC that appears a little bit fresher than BBC Radio 4, which has become too predictable and staid.

RTE Radio 1 used to grab my attention, but that too has faded; it is no longer available on DAB, all of its transmissions having been switched off recently

Realistically, I have no allegiance to any station and flit around each week.

My weekly dose of popular nostalgia is satisfied by two hours with Tony B, the only time I ever listen to BBC Radio 2, which is too superficial to retain my attention.

Times Radio, a new part of Rupert Murdoch's stable of media formats, that has attracted some big names, looks promising too.

Love how he's got an answer and opinion for most things. He's especially good at highlighting what Brexit has done and how great the current government have been over these past few years
