Why do people always judge others on their looks ?

I get that physical attraction is quite important but some people judge people in different ways by what they look like.

I met someone end of last year who made an opinion about the kind of person someone was purely on how they looked.

Is that a common thing?

This is basic human nature, you make judgements based on looks about fear, comfort, attraction etc in a split second and then decide to run, hide, avoid or jump on them etc

I mean, when you're having sex, they're not looking at your personality

I use it on here as I don't have the time to talk to everyone so will judge by the photos on whether I fancy them from the get go. However, I have ended up finding men attractive after getting to them in person.

It's not my favourite thing to judge someone by their looks but when you have to narrow down it's an easier filter.

I get making a judgement in regards to fancying someone by the look but I don’t get how people can make an opinion on someone as a person by the way they look if that makes sense

Absolutely cannot judge a book by its cover but there has to be a Physical Attraction of some form to want to be in any form of physical contact with someone to me as the lady. Looks are not important as they can disappear but person's moral will always be there

People make all sorts of assumptions about others from the way they look - it's just human nature. Think of all the stereotypes about blondes or redheads for example.

Ah, so you mean when you look at someone and think "probably an EDL supporter" or "probably a bible nerd" etc. I guess some things have a stereotypical look.

I think that we have probabiy evolved to have this ability, albeit we potentially don't make good use of it.

Sexually, it will be an important aspect of us finding others attractive and potentially compatible.

Our inner abilities may make this innate but we get influenced by our culture, our society and many seem to make shoddy use of the tools developed over thousands of generations

Surely it’s a basic human instinct based upon tribal / clan recognition?

To our deep ancestors different represented possible danger.

Well, I suppose in one way the first impression we get from someone is through sight so attraction could form from that before you get to know one another.

I definitely need to see a picture to see if I’m likely to find them sexually attractive or not but it is based purely on my preferences not on opinions I form about the individual

for instance I do not find men with long hair attractive -ridiculous I know especially cos they can cut it etc but it does nothing for me sexually. I also don’t often go for men who are dark haired and dark eyed - physical traits I don’t find particularly attractive for no other reason than it being a preference.

after all I am on this site to have sex with people I ultimately find attractive, not looking for my next relationship so it is based mainly on physical appearance.

Just like men may not find me attractive as a curvier woman - I don’t take it personally we don’t all like the same physical traits in people

Although attractiveness is relatively important, I do agree with you OP, in saying that you can’t tell the type of person someone is from how they look. I think that was your point, rather than the importance of looks? Think how often we’ve seen a breathtakingly attractive person, and assume they must be up their own arse a bit, only for them to be lovely and really down to earth.

Its fab, its a sexually based site so looks are the profound factor.

Im not on fab to find a happy ever after, based on that looks are the most important thing to me.

Personality is important but not so as looks, now if i was dating and looking for my happy ever after.. then personality would be the profound factor of which i wouldnt be on fab looking for that.

And I’m a knob.

Sometimes peoples judgments are correct.

It's in every aspect of life, everyone you meet will instantly judge you whether they admit to it or not. In real life it's shallow but on here, it's an instant way of filtering out who you are attracted too. People are visual creatures and can't have sex with a personality.

We can't be everyone's cup of tea but don't let someone else's preference dictate your self esteem.

Would you meet someone with 8 eyes, 10 noses, 4 mouths, & 25 ears and with n arm and leg attached to their head?! If not, then you will go by looks.

Ah misread the thread. It's human nature. People are judgemental, opinionated that is human beings. People that say they don't I beg to differ. Subconsciously at least in some situations you would judge someone based on how they act, speak , etc.
