Mayfair

Where do you sit or place yourself in relation to your date/partner?

Do you sit opposite facing the wall? Therefore your optics and attention are drawn to the other person for the entirety, whilst your date/partner has the privilege of your attention as well as the view of the establishment, the to'ing and fro'ing of people and the outside world?

Or is it vice-versa?

Preferably I like to face the room because I’m nosey.

BUT if it’s someone I don’t know very well, I’d rather they faced the room because I don’t like that much intensive attention on me. If they are nosing it takes their attention off me slightly and I can relax.

I also like a bit of space to pull my chair out a bit as I have long legs and like to stretch them, so nobody sat right behind me as that tends to create chair collisions

Side by side.......

Not only can you both see everything then, you have more space in front of you for all of your plates,bowls and glasses.

They can't see if you have food stuck in your teeth and vice versa.

And you can also get in a cheeky grope of a nice thigh under the table

Depends on the person and the restaurant.

If it's a formal place I've enjoyed sitting opposite and gazing at each other.

If there are booths I've enjoyed sitting next to each other so our thighs touch and there is a lot more physical contact when we aren't eating (arm around shoulders, hand at the lower back, hand on thigh etc).

Good heavens. Has nobody in the younger generation been educated in etiquette?

If the table layouts are such that a wall is relevant, then the lady is sat with her back against it, so giving her the better view and also to favour the other diners with the radiance of her beauty, not to mention the display of her choice of garments and jewels, unless the lady explicitly requests otherwise.

Don't suppose many recognise the need for a chair for her handbag.

I honestly can't remember a time where I sat with my back to the wall, that's really blown me away lol.

It would depend on the table we were sitting at. If the seats are facing each other at either end then fine but a curved booth would be nice so we could sit closer together x

So this Friday evening - or perhaps tomorrow Saturday evening - as you all head out for your dinner dates, have a think about where you're going to sit: next to each other shoulder-to-shoulder, opposite each other, at 90° or, like Putin, 20 feet away where you can barely see the white in their eyes!

Alternatively, just eat cake and drink Gin.

Never thought of that to be fair, I guess I like facing the room but only cos I am nosey , and not so much because the other way around I’d feel too scrutinised. I do love looking at people in the eyes when talking so x
