My nan’s spare room.

Is it rude when providing donations of clothing in those charity bags, is it rude to put underwear in without washing it first?

I’m a bit concerned about the things I wonder about at times.

Yes, very rude. I worked in a charity shop once and sadly I found out that too many people think that's an OK thing to do.

I think quite a few places will only take new and unused underwear? Definitely rude to put any unwashed and dirty clothes in there in my opinion.

I don't know about down south but in Scotland, they don't take underwear. I used to volunteer for a charity shop and they just binned them. Besides, why would you want to give pants to charity? Unless they were still in their packaging of course

Exactly. I don't know if they still do but they used to sell rags to the modern day equivalent of a rag and bone man.

For the record, I do whenever recycle clothes through charities when possible and always ensure it is something that will sell on.

I have given older more worn but very wearable clothes especially coats to homeless people, never underwear though.

Charity is a very difficult thing to be on the receiving end of. I'm very aware of that whenever I make any sort of donation and I'm careful as far as possible to allow recipients their dignity.
